Georgetown debacle

Submitted by Steven. on 22 October, 2007 - 17:04.

Was wondering if libcom posters had heard about this. In Washington DC there's some IMF meeting, so some anarchists decided to go to this fancy going-out district called Georgetown at night and "cause chaos."

Apparently about 200 anarchists went there with helmets, bats, rocks and stuff... and threw a brick which hit a woman who was walking by in the head, so she had to be taken to hospital. That was about it for the night.

I think this is probably the stupidest anarchist "action" I've heard of, at least in the past few years. It seems like they got the idea from that TinTin comic or something. Thing is because it might have brain-damaged some innocent passer-by means it's not even funny. I hope she's going to be ok, and I hope the participants learn to never do something so fucking stupid again.

I mean attacking a nightlife district with people drinking in bars and clubs? Fuck even if it is "for rich people" that's stupid, but even despite that loads of average and poor working people save up to have good nights out, splash out on dates, etc. I was just speechless when I heard about this...

In the early 80s at least, Georgetown was the ghetto wasn't it? At least according Ian Mackaye. He came from there I think.

Georgetown IS a neighborhood where only the super rich can afford to live. Its where you'll find your versace and gucci stores etc.. BUT lots of people go there to window shop, and go to the great cafes and shee shee pubs. The equivalent neighborhood in Philadelphia is called Rittenhouse Square. And at first I was all for this action when i heard about it. But then I realized that I actually hang out in Rittenhouse ALL THE TIME. That got me thinking that randomize terror probably isn't such a great thing......

Even better is the "criticism blackout" on Infoshop.org regarding this incident. Fucked up.

this is genius - the blog was written under the category "bricks"

I thought the march would result in a mass bust. Capital Terminus was invited but decided not to go, more from budget and time constraints than anything else but I'm damn glad.

I wouldn't rush to assume anything based on Michelle Malkin is accurate but this is bad and nobody wants to admit the whole thing was such a bad idea from go that the brick can't be considered an accident.

Have you seen what it sais down further down that blog post?

Quote:
She's my sister. Her name is Sayde. We're totally bff so she granted me exclusive access.

She's not a D.C. store clerk. She's a student at American University. And she ain't no lame-ass victim.

Sayde was in Georgetown that evening with friends. They were out at some sort of wine and cheese affair at a small boutique. You can tell that from the video because sis is looking totally stylish and hot. Good genetics. She and her friends heard the noise from the protest and decided to go check it out. They staked out a spot on the sidewalk to watch the back and forth between protesters and police. Then from the street, a brick headed for the Abercrombie & Fitch store hit my sister Sayde square in the forehead.

I'm just getting confused now. Skimmed through the rest of the post too, and not quite sure what to make of it, i certainly don't trust what the poster is saying on the blog.

Aside from who lives and shops there, what about people who work there and might have been on the way to or from work or taking a smoke break. This is so incredibly fucking stupid.

What, now expect us to sympathise with people who have a job?!
