Qualifications for posting on this thread - you think anyone (male) under 50 wearing a flat cap looks like a nob.

I need a hat (only partly to cover my hair. I can't choose one. Help me choose a nice one.

Thank you.

PS - not a beanie or a baseball cap.

What about a nice flat cap?

You look like a nob already, so it might have a sort of double-negative effect, and cancel it out. smile

Do you really want to sit through a SLSF meeting with 2 people wearing flatcaps?

Christ, I might as well get a beret.

I might add that today I came to work in a black rollneck sweater.

I am a stereotypical anarchist of yesteryear. sad

That's actually what I want, but can't find one that fits me. embarrassed

Obviously without the red star.

Get a hat like mine and look cool like me. Seriously though you should wear a hat, I think the deterioration of society can be directly linked to men no longer wearing hats.

in that case, the only headwear befitting an ultra-left purist:

That is one wanky hat. This is what happens when you hang around Goldsmiths.

at christmas i had the good fortune to be browsing through my wee bro's FHM and found Jenny McCarthy rating types of hats on fellas. Well guess which one she thought was the coolest and least try hard, yep the flat cap, the tilby took a slagging as the guys who wear them "think they are mysterious and interesting yet never are".

Flat caps all the way!

i'm a big hat afficionado (in recognition that i've got about 3 years left of hair sad) and i would say drop into Bates The Hatter on Jermyn street but -

your hair is too long for a proper hat like a trilby, pork pie or bowler. You cant have long hair coming down the back it would look totally trampy and studenty.

Also, the couple of times i've seen you you've been well dressed in a contemporary way, but not in a way that would work with a trad hat. You cannot wear hoodies or casual wear with a hat - like the long hair it would look like a 'wacky student combo' - you'd want to be wearing a shirt and a jacket. I think your best option, seriously, is to go for a variant of the cloth cap style. Not an actual mao cap, but that kind of thing; a soft material baseball cap. You can probs pick one up in the shops you already like.

Anyway your hair looks fine in the pic, but i'm hardly one to judge grin

EDIT:
OFFS you've already agreed to a soft cap, why the fuck did i not just read that before wanking on roll eyes

I don't want a "proper" hat, I'd look a proper nob.

Yea I think it'll have to be some variation on a cap. But everywhere I've looked is just 1 size fits all shit.

is there a TK max in s london?

This is just general point - fucking check out TK Max! Its amazing.

If you want multiple sizes of hat in that syle, you might have to go to Stussy, Freshjive, Boxfresh etc in Covent Garden. Tis very UK Hip Hop.

Whilst you are there you could drop into Fred Perry and get a totally new fashion sense... No? Worth a try grin

true story: 24 years ago the gf at the time went as a tourist to the PRC. (she was one of the first wave to do this.) as a gift i asked her to bring back a mao cap. i thought it would be cool but as soon as i handled it i knew i could never wear it. no irony possible for such as mao.

jack, definitely go with the puritan hat.
