I LOVE GHOSTS.
HAUNTED BELFAST
If I was a ghost I'd spook my old psychotherapist who told me that "there's nothing more boring than being dead". Will she eat her words!
I don't like you or Weeler at the moment actually, Conor, because you don't like me and don't want to see me when you come to Brighton.
Everyone knows ghosts are communists.
proof:
I was going to say that whatever the origins of the film, the theme song is still great, but on reflection there does seem to be a far right subtext:Quote:
If there's something strange in your neighborhoodWho you gonna call?
Newcomers into the neighbourhood eh?
Quote:
Ghostbusters! If there's something weird and it don't look good
Who you gonna call?
Ghostbusters!
Something? Or someone?
Quote:
I ain't afraid of no ghostI ain't afraid of no ghost
Typical macho bravado
Quote:
If you're seeing things running through your headWho can you call?
Ghostbusters!
An invisible man sleeping in your bed
Classic homophobic fear/desire dialectic.
Quote:
Oh, who you gonna call?Ghostbusters!
I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost
Ghost = spectre of communism?
Or perhaps it represents the 'Eternal Jew', haunting the forests of a mythic Aryan past?
Quote:
Who you gonna call?Ghostbusters!
If you're all alone, pick up the phone
And call
Ghostbusters!
To be honest I'm not quite sure what this bit means. Pick up the phone? Perhaps a metaphor for taking action (to protect the white race)?
Quote:
I ain't afraid of no ghostI hear it likes the girls
Characteristic racist portrayal of the oversexed black man.
Quote:
I ain't afraid of no ghostYeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Who you gonna call?
Ghostbusters!
If you've had a dose of a freaky ghost
immigrants and their filthy STDs
Quote:
You'd better callGhostbusters!
Let me tell you something
Bustin' makes me feel good
a reference to racist street violence.
Quote:
I ain't afraid of no ghostI ain't afraid of no ghost
Don't get caught alone, oh no
Ghostbusters!
When it comes through your door
Unless you just want some more
again, undertones of an ambivalent homoeroticism - wanting some more?
Quote:
I think you better callGhostbusters!
Ow!
Presumably the result of having some more.
Quote:
Who you gonna callGhostbusters!
{Repeat to fade}
sorry hon.
Notch8:Maybe Weeler is thinking of that cut scene in Ghostbusters with the lady ghost and Ray? Or this, which for a second made me concerned that there had been a Real Ghostbusters/hentai cross-over I was unaware of:

Many of you may not know much about the history of Belfast, let alone that once upon a time it was haunted, BY GHOSTS!
Here are some tales of yesteryear that will SPOOK you!
The Cavehill in north Belfast is best-known for Belfast Castle, its nature trails, and Belfast Zoo, but lesser-known is the fact that 100 years ago it was HAUNTED... by GHOSTS! Local man 'Micky' claims his great-grandfather saw a ghost close to Belfast Castle:
'my granda told me how his da was out one day walking the dog - when he was walking along, behind a tree there was some rustling and the dog started to bark. He went closer and saw what appeared to be a man behind the tree, so he shouted, 'hey you there, hello' but when he looked a second later the man was gone. Was it, a GHOST!?!'
South Belfast these days is better-known for high-levels of violence and noise caused by students, ongoing violence against ethnic minorities, making Belfast the 'race-hate capital of Erope', and an increasingly transient population resulting in almost non-existent levels of community organising, but did you know that 100 years ago, it was HAUNTED... by GHOSTS!?
The account in 1911 of a local woman, Lizzy, is sure to send a chill down your spine!!!
'I was walking through Botanic Gardens on my way to my work at the bakery, when I spotted some rustling in the bushes behind a tree. I walk closer and saw what appeared to be a man behind the tree. I said to the figure, 'hey, you there, hello'. I turned away for a brief moment and when I looked back at the tree tha figure had vanished. It must have been a GHOST!'
So, next time you visit Belfast, perhaps to visit the famed H&W Shipyards that built the famously shit vessel, Titanic, or maybe to view the famous paramilitary murals, or perhaps even to see what modern day european racism looks like, just remember that once, 100 years ago, this very city was haunted... BY GHOSTS!
