that Hawking show tonight

Submitted by xConorx on 10 March, 2008 - 22:43.

I just got back from traing so I'm catching the last half hour of this Stephen Hawking show
I still don't understand most of the physics. But I really want to sad It all sounds great

10 March, 2008 - 22:45

Me and GDID are cybering.

10 March, 2008 - 22:50

Does that mean sexing?

10 March, 2008 - 22:52

But on MSN.

10 March, 2008 - 22:56

serious
I haven't used msn in a thousand years

10 March, 2008 - 22:57

I wanted to watch this programme. Missed it. Today has just sucked from start to finish.

10 March, 2008 - 22:58

everybody's cybering now!!!

10 March, 2008 - 23:11

seriously youse are missing the most pointless three-way coversation ever on msn

10 March, 2008 - 23:12

I watched part 1, will watch this one tomorrow.
Is it true his 2nd wife (who left her 1st husband - the guy who designed his talking computer - for him) abused him?

10 March, 2008 - 23:14

last man standing was a good show last night, im sure you learnt a few tricks from the zulus conor

10 March, 2008 - 23:15

well it went to court and stuff and she was defo accused, not sure what the verdict was

11 March, 2008 - 00:00

all sounded like fluffy wank, like they just invent these grand 'theories of everything'they have fuck all evidence for because it might just explain one confusing aspect they don't know enough about.

I mean I know fuck all about this shit but they were going on about how the asymmetrical weak nature of gravity compared to the other forces could be explained by string theory and extra dimensions it travels through, but that only brings up the question as to why it would travel in these dimensions whilst the other forces don't?

And once they've explained how the the big bang they still have to explain why or how the sutff that lost it's symmetry came about.

haha I saw a bit, that show bores me though
dudes get a weeks to train at some shit they've never done, then get their arses kicked, seems pointless!

Actually it seems it was his nurses who said Hawking had been abused by his 2nd wife while Hawking himself publicly denied he'd been abused. Meh
cnn
so apparently I was talking shit and it didn't go to court

11 March, 2008 - 00:04

oh fuck whatever as if you have a fuckin baldy about anything like this, jesus
i still haven't a clue what string theory is and I did read a couple of articles a few years ago so i should be an expert wink

nah seriously they even bust out at the end that there is no evidence for the shit, they exist only as theories that go someway to explaining shit they are dumbfounded by.

Yep, that's basically Quantum Physics in a nutshell.

eh not quite, they do know quite abit about how much of it behaves, they just have problems accounting for it and making sense of it in a unified theory.

11 March, 2008 - 00:22

are you gonna embarrass yourself by pretending you know what you're talking about?
cos I admit I don't have a clue about this shit

you're making out like physicists don't acknowledge the holes and limitations in all this shit. Fuck sake even Feynman who was one of the big-wigs said "If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics"

Eh i'm not saying anything that they haven't stated themselves, but it's simply true that the theories being knocked out to explain massive gaps in knowledge are incredibly speculative and to be honest if philosophy was throwing stuff so grand and speculative out in this day and age it'd be torn to pieces.
And you aren't talking to TreeofJudas here, i don't demand that scientists pretend to have straight answers for everything.

it sounded like that was just what you were doing I'm afraid wink
point taken

ps- gimme a shout tomorrow

A lot of it is wildly speculative, but they don't just pull it out of their arses, the theories are created to account for the experimental data we already have. The trouble is that we have no way of testing most of it, which is why so many physicists are getting all hot and bothered about the large hadron collider.

The program was shit, anyway, just repeated the same stuff they do on every program about theoretical physics. And the analogies were brain meltingly poor.

Well, yeah, that's kind of how the whole "science" thing works. What do you want, the meaning of life?

While watching that explosion again and again (with reference to the big bang) I could feel my astronomical knowledge draining away.

Why isn't revol68 funny anymore?

11 March, 2008 - 19:27

Old age.

I took his comedy powers - he even acknowledges this. We have a quota system. He's posting more serious shit than me these days, I'm posting more nonsense.

11 March, 2008 - 22:19

If by 'serious shit' you mean 'disgreeing with common sense in every thread', then yes. I liked it better when he was insulting.

I think we could come up with formulae for some users posts.

Revol, post= inverse of gc
where c is general consensus

Jack, post=inverse of pc

(its quite obvious what pc stands for I think)

(I don't know the sign for inverse, if there is one sad )

11 March, 2008 - 22:58

you can write inverse usually as

1/something, so 1/pc, 1/gc
or something to power -1; so pc or gc to the -1

11 March, 2008 - 23:02

you are all nerds.

iirc there's a specifically anarchist demolition of general relativity somewhere on the net, posted here ages ago.
