Whats the feedback on the bookfair then.... Did you pick up any good stuff? I for one spent a fortune! Picked up some class second-hand books: Proletarian Order by Gwynn Williams; Workers Control & Socialist Democracy by Carmen Sirianni; From the Bourgeois to the Proletarian Revolution by Otto Ruhle. Also picked up a brilliant pamphlet on The Life and Times of Joe Thomas as well as the latest Aufheben! Enough to be going on with methinks.

Went to the postal strike and education talks, enjoyed those. As far as books go I bought Joseph Kay's pamphlet - I'm on a budget smile Beat Jack at giving out Catalysts too.

Boobs.

Gotta say, I'm looking forward to seeing a hard copy of new Catalyst. The PDF looks amazing...glad to see SF finally responding to the high standard set in presentation by the AF.

Yeah, I'm particularly amused by the guy with no nose on page 2.

Yeah, poorly cropped photos aside it's a definite improvement. Like, I would actually hand those out to people, and not feel like a complete tool. Actually, it's probably the first anarchist publication I've seen for which that's true. It's definitely better than IW. The only edition of IW I ever read ran a story about "What if Thomas the Tank Engine was an Industrial Unionist".

EDIT: At the bookfair I bought everyone's papers to curry favour with all the libcoms on the stalls. I even grabbed a copy of International Revolution for a cheeky £1. Also got Black Flag and Aufheben, because they are actually good.

What's in the latest Aufheben?

Were there any particularly interesting/new publications at the bookfair this year, that everyone is raving/wanking over, that foreigns can only dream about? What is 'International Revolution'?

I got the latest Black Flag (I'm slagged off in it), and Direct Action, and some South African syndicalist stuff off the ZACF stall, plus Notes from the Borderland, Catalyst, and some Visteon pamphlets from the Libertarian Socialist wing of HSG.

I forgot to get any WSM (www.wsm.ie) stuff...

I went to the Postal support group meeting, and the first part of the Crisis meeting with Paul Mason and two other blokes, the first of whom was good, the other (John Holloway?) some welsh guy anyway was mad...

I also went to the L&S meeting which I thought was very good.

I got Aufheben and some free stuff.

The venue smelt worse this year, I'm not sure if that's because there were more punks than last time, or if I just got there later.

Good to meet a couple of new people, and see some old faces again.

I thought the libcom pub was quite good, maybe use it next year as well.

Did any of the Solfed or AF people who weren't on libcom already talk to anyone outside their group? What progress did you make in your merger talks?

knight rose without a beard looked funny.

No Alan, they were responding to Organise! going for a tabloid format with the Leveller.

With regards to Catalyst, I'm not sure it's the right move to go tabloid... Ignoring the content which was fine, it does look just like "another trot paper" surely?

I know there's a problem with the typical photocopied A4 newsletter look, but I'm not sure a tabloid is the way to go, I think maybe a colour A4 newsletter would be better like the Hackney Heckler or even spot colour like Totally Indypendent, and Organise, maybe it should be another thread though?

Steven - I'm criticised by name in the Manchester No Borders article in Black Flag, as are Paul Stott and Ian Bone. Mr. T

I know, however I will probably reply initially in Freedom, then expand on it for Black Flag if they want, I'm not waiting six months to reply though grin

Vanilla: By all means respond in Freedom. But also consider a response in BF as well - we are trying to encourage debate in BF - both Ian and Paul are considering a response.

I spoke to one of the editors quite a lot about contributing at the bookfair I have every intention of doing so.

talk to the popular peoples front? heresy!

there aren't any. we were discussing industrial strategy and closer co-operation, further initiatives may arise from this.

it's not aimed at people who would really know what a Trot paper is, it's for distro to the general public. it's much easier shifting a free newspaper at train or tube stations than it is a folded bit of A3, piggybacking on the Metro et al's hegemony.

go for it; since most of our organisations are for the most part propaganda groups, propaganda's a pretty important topic to discuss

Hopefully future issues will be on slightly thinner paper (40gsm as opposed to 52gsm for the current one) but full colour. Hackney Heckler looked fantastic.

Tabloid was chosen for a few tactical reasons -

1. 8 page tabloid is cheaper than 8 pages of A4, despite the extra size
2. People are used to taking papers in the street now with the Metro, London Lite and soon the standard.
3. In the opinion of the people who suggested the change, tabloid just looks better and more professional.

it's an even $1 over here, so you made a modest contribution to the cause.

'International Revolution' = World Revolution, ICC paper in UK. It now costs £1 so no one never conned no one.
Went for a curry with members of Solfed, Organise (though they can be the same thing at once), EWN, EWG (although they can be in all four things at once), AF and others, including BigLittleJ, who is sensibly remaining independent while he thinks things through. And Weeler, who wears an enormous badge saying 'ex-WSM and still smarting'. And Jef Costello, who is accused of being 'gay for the ICC'.

Should I be worried that the man from the ICC just called me sensible?
