I love Northern Ireland. We literally are the bible-belt mentals of Europe. sweet

BBC NI

The Environment Minister Sammy Wilson has angered green campaigners by describing their view on climate change as a "hysterical psuedo-religion".
In an article in the News Letter, Mr Wilson said he believed it occurred naturally and was not man-made.
"Resources should be used to adapt to the consequences of climate change, rather than King Canute-style vainly trying to stop it," said the minister.
...
Mr Wilson said he refused to "blindly accept" the need to make significant changes to the economy to stop climate change.

It's pretty amazing, we have an Education committee chair who is a young-earth creationist, and now an environment minister who's a climate-change denier.

lol NI

lol, pseudo-religion. tautology?

5 September, 2008 - 12:42

i hate the way scientists are always going around "blindly accepting" stuff, they should totally look at all the evidence for natural and anthropogenic climate change and try and come to some kind of consensus. what a backwards province that there is.

The face of blind science.

The mentalist may be right, though. It may well be time to accept that climate change isn't going anywhere, since there's no way we're going to be getting that communist utopia which will magic it away, so we might as well find ways to deal with it (like reading a lot of cyberpunk and getting all angsty about corporations, man).

5 September, 2008 - 13:51

What?
That's probably one of the shittest points ever made. Regardless of communist politics, denying that human activity is the primary cause of recent global shifts in temperature is actually complete batshit nonsense.

5 September, 2008 - 16:46

And my point is that this human activity is not going to reverse anytime soon, so we might as well start thinking of how to cope with climate change. In that sense the mentalist is right. Everybody keeps talking about reversing it. What if it can't be reversed under the current production relations? No point in constantly whining about it.

5 September, 2008 - 19:12

capitalism isn't going away anytime soon either, maybe we should learn to cope with it too?
wise the fuck up son

5 September, 2008 - 19:26

What are you doing about capitalism, and what are you doing about climate change?

5 September, 2008 - 19:48

Are you serious?

oh look our middle class friend has finished playing the radical and is back on course.

fuck off cunt.

5 September, 2008 - 20:00

Can everyone please list everything they do to stop capitalism and pm it to treeofjudas?

I'd imagine first thing on the liast would be
'acknowledge that it actually is real'

5 September, 2008 - 20:10

Nah I see what treeofjudas is saying, it's like... the British government should right now be considering that climate change could be irreversible. so they should be investing in swimming lessons. and teaching us how to scuba n shit. always be prepared innit.

5 September, 2008 - 20:13

Bob thinks we should have a little pray about climate change.

5 September, 2008 - 20:15

might work
or voodoo magic

5 September, 2008 - 20:19

Racism.

5 September, 2008 - 20:26

I don't see how racism will help cope with climate change.. Throwing off out all the prods won't keep Ireland afloat, you know.

5 September, 2008 - 20:46

I thought we were overdue another ice age; so maybe global warmings a good thing

I'd be quite happy to test this hypothesis.
