UFC champ Jeff Monson - anarchist and Wobbly, out-spoken and fairly coherent. Whats the deal? Has anybody actually met him? I'm not a fan of MMA at all, but I'm nonetheless interested.

Sol Fed hosted a talk "sport and politics" with him in Manchester in May 2006. JDMF who used to post on here chaired the session and might have reported on it.

the one you're on about was his first reported loss - the dude who beat him was some Boston cop, who I think was contracted for a single UFC fight off the back of it.

You mean proper lifts?
Dude deadlifts are awesome. I don't lift anymore cos I train too much already, but DL are fucking class, by far my best lift and best progression I had. 120kg for 5reps at 65kg bodyweight was cool.

Having perused the other threads, I'll have to agree with the person who pointed out that MMA etc. seems a tad homoerotic. Which is why boxing is such a better sport. Who invented wrestling? The Greeks. You know what else they invented?

Damn straight boxing is a great sport and pretty handy in real life if you are able to forget that you are in the ring but I can say with authority that almost every single street fight ends up on the floor after a few seconds and that's where your ground game comes in. MMA is pretty good although I preferred stuff like UFC in the beginning when it was less about sport and more about what style was better. It's no coincidence that xConorx backs the ground game as those early UFC fights were totally dominated by grapplers.

I like both grappling and striking. I train muaythai more than BJJ and my striking's much better than my grappling. That said, I'm drifting...
