Libcom Homoerotic Week - Are you a gym buff?

Submitted by xConorx on 18 January, 2008 - 18:21.

So what with this being the first annual Libcom Homoerotic Week, and with all the gym talk, what do you twats actually do at the gym?

Even pudgy Revol is talking about "getting into shape" and "going for a run", at which his handsome flatmate merely laughed.

Personally I don't really "go to the gym" in the poser twat way. I train muaythai and brazillian jujitsu usually 2-3 days a week each and play football one day with Mara and Revol, who are shitter than me. Often I'll go for a swim or a run if I can't make scheduled training. If I've a fight coming up I do more conditioning drills than normal, and usually interval work.

What you knobs do? And girls can post. So not just Gregg and GDID replying.

4 days = Leg day, biceps/back day, chest/shoulders/tris day and a day of cardio if I'm arsed.

I'm still puny though, making slow progress. You want the specific sets?

18 January, 2008 - 18:36

Whatever you feel. I lifted 2 full-body days for 6 months and made shitloads of progress, but stopped when I started competing.

2-day split, 5x5 routine:
1 - Deadlift, Bent-Over Rows, Overhead Press, plus abs, dips and assistance stuff
2 - Squat, Bench, Chins/pullups, plus abs, dips, and other assistance

Was good shit. just don't have time anymore.

I'm WELL unfit but I want to be well fit and also buff. Give me advice.

18 January, 2008 - 19:09

I went to the gym today for the first time this year embarrassed

Grace if you join a gym go on the crosstrainer - girls love it but you never see a boy on one. They are well good. Then when you've done that for at least half an hour use the weight machines (on the lowest possible setting) for a bit. Theres one that makes your boobs more perky but I dunno what its called.

I do ballet once a week - amazing for improving balance and flexibility.

Don't just do cardio, seems to be what most ladies do. Do a 5min cardio warm up, a circuit on the machines and then a run or something.

18 January, 2008 - 19:33

I don't know what a crosstrainer or cardio is. And I don't know what the machines do. Oh god.

18 January, 2008 - 19:44

Amazing. Its friday night though. Will clarify monday.

It will all be explained at your gym induction.

Cardio is, for example, running or cycling. something which has the purpose of raising your heartrate, as opposed to weights which have the purpose of building muscle.

You need to warm up with cardio (treadmill, excercise bike, rowing machine, or the amazing crosstrainer which sort of simulates running in a way which doen't damage your skeleton or whatever.) Conor suggests a 5 minute warm up but I'd suggest longer.

Boys if you're lazy get a bar and dumbells with that you can get yourself looking decent with a few minutes a day.
Won't work off a beer gut.

SadlyI can't do any training right now because I'm injured, but I was honestly going to do some exercise. I can start doing some stuff nbext week but no impasct for a month and no contact for 2 at least.

18 January, 2008 - 20:04

My gym's full of New Year's resolution types at the moment, so I'm running instead until it gets quieter. And still managing to smoke 20 fags a day. cool

18 January, 2008 - 20:26

Well I'm on lunch break so I'm stuffing my face with chips and beer and a sub from my local sandwich shop. Lifes too short...

18 January, 2008 - 20:46

fuck that shit, I have a Playstation and a bong. that's all the exercise i need to get me through the week.

18 January, 2008 - 20:49

Muay thai 3 times a week ( two 1 hour session, 1 2 hours session) 2 3 mile runs a day, probably a few weights/sit ups and press ups on the weekend, nothing heavy, just 20kg dumbells, more reps than weights.

But i'm screwed at the moment becaus ei appear to be more injury prone than the cloned child of Darren Anderton and Martin Laursen.

At the moment ive got a pain that goes from the left hand side of my hand, down through my wrist and halfway up my forearm. I think its either from throwing upper cuts with a wonky wrist or repetative strain (working on computers as opposed to excessive masturbation wink ). The problem is i cant stop working as my attempts at winning the lottery are proving futile and i can't stop throwing rights cus that leaves me a little lacking in the combos. Any ideas for cures xconorx?

does anyone else find that the bigger their appetite for exercise becomes the bigger their appetite in general becomes?

I was running 1 - 2 miles every day for a couple of months last year, doing 200 sit ups too and just *could not* stop pigging out.

I think i'm going to weight train, cos not eating disgusting amounts of food is not an option.

2 lessons of Krav Maga a wee and the occasional hunt-sab. If its good enough for the Israeli Defence Forces its good enough for me. Krav Maga that is, not sabbing. That WOULD put an end to hunting.

I'm injury prone myself. I have a recurring knee problem caused by Osgood-Schlatter's syndrome in my left knee when i was a teenager - I take anti-inflammatories on days when it's really bad. I always pick up injuries, generally I just take a few days off, and do something else like swimming or running til I can spar again, I have to do something!

No idea what advice to give you for your injury. I'm kinda lucky cos one of our BJJ coaches is a GP so he always give free advice, suggestions for wee physio exercises and whatnot, he even writes free scripts for people too haha!

Jess is right. crosstrainers, while looking naff, are a pretty good full-body cardio workout. I mean, i don't do them myself because I'm heterosexual, but even the dudes on The Ultimate Fighter show do crosstrainers. You can usually switch up the resistance on them to vary your workout and stuff.

Best advice I have if you haven't done ANY exercises in ages is get a decent pair of running shoes and go for a jog 2-3 times a week. Start light, 5-10 mins slow pace, then stretch lightly, then run another 5-10 mins at a pace that feels right for you. If you think you can do a bit more go for it. If not just cool down with a few minutes very light jogging and another warm-down stretch.
Each time you go for a jog, either run same distance but a bit faster, or same pace but a bit longer. Eventually it'll no longer be a "jog" but a proper "run".

Alternatively, if you can swim, do that, same kinda way - few laps warm up lightly, stretch, few laps, rest, few laps rest etc while you still feel comfortable. Then either do same distance but a bit faster, or same speed but a bit longer.

If you have a sport you'd like to try do that to. I find it's hard to motivate yourself if it's just "fitness training" on yoru own. But if you have a sport you'd like to try where you kinda have to turn up to play or train, it's more fun, more social, and easier to leave the house.
Like for me, BJJ, muaythai and football are definitely social things too, I've lots of mates who do them, and sometimes training's the only chance I get to chat to them (and punch them in the face, choke them, or score sweet sweet goals against em!!

Either way - try not to make it a chore, mix it up, keep it interesting and don't give a shit what other people in the gym are doing, secretly they're as unsure as you wink

Injuries... don't talk to me about injuries sad

That's always how it will be Tacks. Think of your body as a machine that needs fuel to do the work that you require of it. It makes sense doesn't it that the more work your machine does, the more fuel it's going to need. You'll also find that the more you use your machine, the better it will work and then you'll want to be putting premium fuels only into it. For the spanners that don't understand my analogy...
machine = body
work = everyday activity
more work = exercise on top of everyday activity
fuel = food
premium fuel = good quality, healthy food.
all the best.

I went to a few lessons of krav maga, but they don't teach you to defend yourself against the person next to you on the bus exploding unexpectedly.

In fairness, given the content of Libcom this week, you'd be forgiven for thinking that everyone in the world was gay.

19 January, 2008 - 01:13

he said he likes things in his ass, but as he's an educated man I always assumed he was talking about zoophilia

All my friends are into short high intensity workouts. I like pull-ups and jumping rope.
