i do but to be honest i don't like this habit of people posting a couple of times here before asking for invites.

Yeah, this site is not a kg request forum.

If you want a kg invite zawapeter, become a member of this forum and make friends with enough people to find someone who'd give you an invite.
As it stands you look like someone who googled "karagarga invite" and wound up here.

yeah especially not if your not offering another invite back.

He is, his previous posts are on rkn's who wants a karagarga invite thread.

ps Ping, can you point me in the direction of an idiots guide to ripping DVDs?
And about how long does it take to do?
And do you know how to do subtitles and is it difficult?

doom9 forum has a good guide on it here: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/guides.htm

Do you want to rip and then encode to an .avi file, or just rip and then burn as a DVD?

If the latter, just run DVD Decryptor on a DVD, which decodes it and rips the files to your hard drive, which you can then save to a blank DVD.
If the former, run DVD Decryptor and then AutoGK

former, I need smaller files because I don't have a DVD drive.

Although my friend does...

I'll have a look around for subtitles, there's a film up thre that I might do subs for, plus I just got a film that I don't think is up there yet.

actually does anyone know how to use those srt subs.

Depends on which player. I use bs player and I just use the "load subs" button. Anything more complicated than that is beyond me.

in media player classic just ctrl-L i think, or file - load subtitles

videolan (google it) can play them all- they just need to be in the same directory as the .avi file, with the same filename but an .srt extension instead of a .avi extension

film.avi
film.srt

You can right click on the picture and select "view subs"

to jef and other people who pointed about the fact that i started two threads regarding karagarga's invites.

indeed i found this place googling for karagarga's invites months ago. i saw that divisive cottonwood wrote that he had one to spare, so i told him i was interested. he haven't had the invite anymore, and suggested to me to ask publicly, as i did.
some days ago i had another pvts exchange with cottonwood regarding karagarga's invites (he had one and asked if i was still interested, but when i replied he already gave it), and he told me again to ask publicly, as i've done with this thread.

this just to say that i'm not used to go in forums asking favours, i was suggested to do so here by a forum's member, if i hadn't received this suggestion i'd never started any thread. if i did, it's beacuse i spoke with a member of this community and, as far as i intended, doing so wasn't considered an unkind bheaviour.

i'm sorry if anyone here was annoyed by this thread, it wasn't my intention and i apologize

jef, what do you exactly need to do with subtitles?

you can use a software avi player that load separated subtiles file (like vlc or bs o media player classic, as they told) or you can "hardsub" an avi (ie: the subtitles will be impressed on the video avi's video stream), in this case you can also play the divx on a homeplayer device that doesn't support separated subtitles file.

let me know if you want more info

a simple and straight guide to hardsubbing with virtuladub: http://www.divxland.org/permanentsubtitling.php

it makes an example with substation alpha format, it's the same with dvd and sami formats

if you have subtitles in other formats you can convert them with this tool: http://www.ireksoftware.com/ta/

I might have a KG invite at some point, if you post me a link to a guide on how to rip a DVD and one on how to do subtitles (as in how to create them, I want to do English subs for a french film.) then I'll give it to you when I get it.
hardsubs are a pain in the arse, I'm guessing there's no way to remove them right?

what do you need exactly? (check the appling ones wink)
1. an howto rip a dvd in a divx with hardsubbed subtitles
2. an howto rip separated subtitles from a dvd
3. an howto add hardsubbed subtitles to a divx
4. an howto remove hardsubbed subtitles from a divx (that's quite impossible)

let me know smile

well I wont ask

How do I write my own subtitles? I want to do subtitles for a KAragarga film that doesn't have them.

Is there a way to edit existing subtitles so that I can just translate the text from french to english and not worry about synchronising anything.

in dvd usually subtitles are not hardsubbed, they are rendered on the video while playing.
so if you see the subtitles on video even if you switched them off, it could be possible that they won't appear in the ripped divx
you have to try the rip and see the results in order to know

jef costello wrote:

i use subrip: here's the official guide: http://zuggy.wz.cz/guides/video.htm

jef costello wrote:

indeed i googled a bit and it seems there's a virtual dub filter that does the job, however i haven't ever tried it, and the guide doesn't seem really explanatory:
http://www.compression.ru/video/subtitles_removal/index_en.html
http://www.compression.ru/video/subtitles_removal/userguide_en.html

the author of subrip is working on a subremoval tool but it's still in development stage, you can try to email him and ask if he got a usable version

once you haver ripped subtitles or have downloaded them you have a text file, just open it in a text editor and translate smile
pay attention to not mess with the time info (there're various format of substitles text files, however it's simple to understand which part you don't have to modify once you see the text)

it woul be teorically possible to write a subtitles textfile starting from zero: but it would be a pain, 'cause you'd have to set the time point for every phrase manually, it will need hours of work

just ask if you need more infos

Im sorry to milk this thread, but I just became a PU on OiNK, and finally have invites to trade.
