He's right about crocs ... and there's no doubt you gotta be careful about bright red lipstick ... and if you've got anything over a size AA tits, empire line is a mistake.

those dresses pictured are not empire line, tut tut.

Empire line doesn't drape down from the breats it starts from just below them, like this.

While an empire line dress will fall from directly below the bust, the classic design will also usually flow in a straightish line from there. The dress in this picture, I think, tapers ever so slightly at the hem. I'd describe this as a high-waisted dress.

I wouldn't have corrected you only for the fact that you decided to gloat about how much you knew. A minor distinction in styles but nevertheless perhaps enough to make you wrong...

this is essentialist nonsense, the empire line denotes the height of the line, and your 'high waisted dress' sounds decidedly awkward and vague.

Anyway wikipedia says revol for teh win.

Empire line just refers to the WAIST LINE level - what the fabric does elsewhere is irrelevant.

So we're going to have to come up with a new plan to show up revol.

EDIT: Back to the original topic, I hate those shapeless sacks and am excited about the new tailored silhouette which is catching on atm.

We tried that "Queer Eyes for the Straight Guy" show, but things still haven't improved. We prefer comfort and low cost over fashion. Sorry to have offended you.

Offended!!!?? it was like a fucking aesthetic apocalypse, people walking around with pastel polo shirts tucked into high waisted jeans with no belts, their tapered legs just grazing over the top of a pair of hideous white trainers. The only folk in my office who dressed in a reasonably stylish manner was a puerto rican girl who was so hot she could pull off anything and a black girl rocking a hipster leather jacket and skinny jeans combo, the whitey really was a fucking honky in there.

I disagree with you both. That wiki thread provided above does not prove your point, it refers to the empire silhouette and a "long, loose skirt which skims the body". The word silhouette itself should give you the clue that the overall shape is important. I bought a new skirt for an interview last week and it said on the label "high-waisted skirt" and I definitely saw high-waisted dresses labelled as such.

What happens the material below the waist line definitely matters, if it fluffed out and then gathered tightly it would be a puff ball skirt/dress, if it stopped immediately it would just be a bra/belly top, if it clung to your body and joined between your legs it would be swimming togs. I wasn't trying to show anyone up. Just setting you straight!
