Meet treeofjudas!! London Libcom Drinks! Fri 5th October!

Submitted by Lone Wolf on 19 September, 2007 - 00:29.

Hey guys

Just got pm confirmation from tree earlier today that he would def. like to have a london drinks do on Fri 5th Oct so who would like to join him, me and his gf? I hope at least one person or i will feel a bit of a gooseberry - a veritable cornucopia of fruit if you will! wink

There will be no recognition probs this time as they will be staying at mine the night before!
How about the Pride of Spitalfields? (Doubt if John will be pushing for the commie place on Old Street as he won't be around - one less hassle tongue - LGG gig in Sweden that w/e - v. swanky!! - awesome actually, well done guys - so no gav either i guess? ) Ftony will be back and should be going given it is round the corner - how about Rkn and Zobag??

Anyways i will prov. say 7pm onwards in the Pride on Fri 5th and if you guys wanna quibble over venues and times, feel free! This is my last post ( mournful trumpet sound wink ) til Wed 26th so have fun peeps and try and keep outta trouble. (that mostly aimed at Alan and revol tongue )

Clever of him to avoid the anarchist bookfair.

19 September, 2007 - 09:59

I certainly hope to be there

You could always visit at the time of the drinks.

19 September, 2007 - 17:24

I'd like to get there if possible, but not the Pride of Spitalfields on a Friday night - there's no space on a Monday night ffs. The Foundry gets busy/loud but it's big enough to deal with that, not so the Pride.

Ideally somewhere it's possible to have a chat, I have 4-5 old man pubs in mind, but see who else posts and I can't guarantee attendance yet.

Na I guess I'll have to wait for the bookfaiir til I come and tear shit up wink

19 September, 2007 - 17:31

I'm all for a place where we can have a chat like civilized people, old man pubs sound grand.

21 September, 2007 - 21:52

i heart old man pubs.

as ever, i shall remain aloof until disappointing you all at the last minute.

...although whether the disappointment is me turning up or not is anyone's guess.

22 September, 2007 - 11:26

I'm not in town, shame as woulda liked to meet ToJ.

Have fun!

It hasn't been a problem when me met there on a Fri before - in fact we were the only people there til 9.30 or so! tongue

However if you and toj and ftony want a rank old ol' bloke pub this could be done if you could make a suggestion in E. London ish as all of us so far who are going live there or are staying there.

However if no other suggestions are forthcoming i will confirm the Pride later in the week as the Foundry is dead noisy and our group will be quite small by the sounds. So there should be space. cool

Shame a lot of the cool people are not around - Alan, Jef, Conor, John, Rkn.. sad

Anyone else? How bout Zobag?

Or Jack - tho he is in Brighton now again i believe.

The Button, Jason or Martin?

Any more for any more?

SO is anyone else going to this apart from me and Alf??

C'mon guys....

2 October, 2007 - 21:31

Well as you deliberatley scheduled it so I couldn't come I don't think that you should be the one claiming to be snubbed wink

2 October, 2007 - 23:43

Not sure what time I'll be able to get there. Would suggest the Doric Arch at Euston as a possible alternative venue (next to the buses in Euston station), or the Bree Louise off Drummond street (although that might also be busy).

Hey these pubs both look great catch - good choices! You like Euston don't you? wink I am surprised you think they are gonna be less busy than the Pride tho given they are by the station and the Pride is not and is tucked down a side road but i will take your word for it. As you obv. have been to all these pubs and i haven't.

Ooh its a hard choice - sounds like the Doric is easier to find but the Bree does a pie containing three types of cheese. !

As you say the Bree might be busy (prolly cos of the pie! ) we will go for the Doric then.

Soo the drinks will be at:

The Doric Arch (prev Head of Steam)
1 Eversholt St. nr Euston Stn
NW1

from 7pm onwards on Fri 5 Oct.

Can an admin put the name in the thread title please? Thank you.

Look forward to seeing you whenever you can make it catch. And you Alf.

Jef i don't feel snubbed! tongue

But i am curious as to why so few posters are around atm now that the hols are over etc - curiouser and curiouser.. I mean normally there are about a dozen peeps around for the drinks - i mean i know a lot of fun people are not around this w/e so i suppose that is it. Or it could be like last time when a lot of peeps turned up for the drinks unexpectedly that just hadn't posted about it.

Bump

See you tomorrow then catch at some point. smile

And hopefully anyone else who may be able to make this.

6 October, 2007 - 17:11

A pleasant evening, involving
- a short but intense discussion with Tree and his partner S about Israeli politics and the difficulty of standing outside the 'siege mentality' which dominates there
- a not altogether frivolous discussion with the above plus Jason C and Lone Wolf about whether or not there will still be a need to produce Angel Delight in communism
- me and Jason being left to battle it out on the trade unions and left communism after the others had left, a debate slightly slurred by Guinness on my part and ESB on his.

Lone Wolf, thanks for organising this.

Look forward to continuing the first discussion 'next year in Jerusalem' (or Tel Aviv)

6 October, 2007 - 20:06

Yeah cheers Alf - it WAS a pleasant evening. cool

For the record, no such need will exist. angry wink

Man Jason must have been well gone. Did he buy a beer all night or was it not a blue moon? wink

7 October, 2007 - 07:28

Agree about the Angel Delight, not so sure about Fry's Chocolate Cream. I personally would be in favour of bringing back the really small twopenny bars that went out in the 1950s and whose wrappers I used to collect in a Black Magic box.

yes, Jason bought a whole round of drinks.

7 October, 2007 - 13:58

Man Fry's Chocolate Cream is a whole different ballgame - obv. we will need that. Coincidentally, did you read that sadly in the last day or so the decision has been made to shut the factory that has produced said delight since 1919 with the loss of like loads of jobs - so now is the time i think for the chocolate revolution! My fave kind lol

The original was soo the best - did you ever try the peppermint or the fruit version - did not taste as good but it was kinda exciting not knowing which flavour the next square would be. I have a couple of choc wrappers too heh !

Alan Hark who is talking - i believe you owe me a couple y' know heh!

Fry's Five Flavours you mean?
I understand the attraction
but Chocolate Creams reigned supreme

By the way, you are sadder even than me, because I got rid of my wrappers in a fit of adolescent contempt for the childhood that I momentarily thought I had abandoned. However I kept the Black Magic box, and still have one to this day, though I can't verify it is the same one.

Considering that, if i rememeber correctly, everyone else had water, my cheapskate reputation is intact.

10 October, 2007 - 14:59

Don't beat yourself up, Jason, I'm sure Tree had an orange juice
