canada is a workers' paradise, 'period'. haven't you watched any michael moore films?
Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto
i dont live in vancouver, but, living in BC i hear a fair bit of news about it, and i get the impression that crime is pretty badly on the rise. think there's a rising crime rate in Toronto too, though i'm not sure.
from what i can remember from my brief visits to toronto when i was a kid, the traffic is terrible.
weather tends to be pretty warm in Vancouver, and there's lots of rain (a good or a bad, depending on if you like the warm and rain or not).
an upside to montreal, if you dont know french, is that many people there seem to speak english. another upside is that montreal has loads of radicals, from what i gather.
are you only considering those three cities? i really came to like Calgary, when i lived there (i'm probably the only one, though, and it gets COLD in the winters).
oh, and Victoria, the capital of BC... i've only been there once, but it's a very attractive city, i think it's considered one of the most beautiful in the world. and the weather on Vancouver Island (where Victoria is, confusing names, i know) has the warmest weather in all of Canada.
You wanna avoid crime don't come to the prairies (Manitoba, Saskatchewan or Alberta). Though in Regina, I hear drunk driving isn't nearly as frowned upon as in other places as long as you have your hazards on, they call them 'drunk lights' there. Seriously if you don't cold, go to Vancouver, if you don't like wet yer screwed. So I guess its your choice, cold and cultured (montreal); cold and stuck up (Toronto); or wet and painfully flaked out (Vancouver).
Have you considered Victoria? It's the capital of BC is kind of like what Florida is like to Americans, its like heaven's waiting room. The climate is pleasant and the city isn't too big.
So I am quickly coming to wits end with living in this country and honestly I am thinking abut becoming an ex-pat, esp with how atrocious life in this country is for kids. I am esp worried about raising my son any longer in this country. If I didn't have a kid, I could live with it, but I do have a kid. The cities are too damn dangerous (Baltimore had 280+ murders last year, where a "safe" city like Boston still had 66), and the suburbs are too fucking retarded.
You're more apt to get the shit kicked outta you in Boston then shot. We're much more sportsman-like up this way.
Well thanks for the sarcasm and the serious replies.
I like cold weather. Snow is fabulous too.
I wouldn't mind Boston except I never want to move to another city with all that Sham-Am Irish bullshit again. I got enough of that in Chicago. And most of the people I have met from Boston are pricks.
I have no illusion that anywhere is a workers' paradise, btw, but compared to what I grew up with, this country is significantly, no, phenomenally, worse than it was in the 1970's and early 80's, esp. for raising kids.
Thanks EdmontonWobbly. Re: Florida... I personally think Florida is pretty much a turd sticking off the ass of the United State. Lots of my family moved there when they retired and I have friends in Miami, and I have never been anywhere I dislike quite as much as Florida.
Oh, and GDID, go fuck yourself.
Thanks all.
Chris

They prefer the sunshine state sir

So can some of our Canadians chime in and give me their opinions on what life is like in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, any of the upsides/downsides of each, etc.
Thanks,
Chris
