Since I know that dee and some others here are fans, what do people make of the new album from them?

'One of Us', from the new album, is downloadable here:

I'll have to wait til the CD comes through - the downloads aren't working for me.

Will pop a copy your way if you haven't already ordered it. Doesn't quite hit the heights of the late 1980s, or even the late 70s, but still - at the risk of sounding soft on nationalism - Britain's finest.

I'll have to listen to it a few more times before I can really judge. It didn't hit me the way that their old stuff did, but I still like it.

I don't want to be a Wire bore (as you hurtle towards 40 it becomes embarrassing to talk about 'bands', etc.), but I highly recommend the late 80s/90s period (from Snakedrill through to The First Letter) if you haven't heard that stuff. Their social critiques got even darker and funnier.

Got the CD this morning - bit of a mixed bag really. I'll listen to it a few more times before coming up with any concrete ideas tho...
