Will Atlanta get it together to pass the Mets and reclaim our rightful place as Eastern Division champions?
Any thoughts on the Yankees Red Sox series this weekend?

Organized sports just train people for nationalism. Supporting a team is objectively anti-working class.

We only have non-competitive sports (and Esperanto learning circles) here at Camp Quest.

Actually, organized sports (and other school activities) train folks for employment.

Thug raised an important point. While I'm hesitant to go along with his red sox nationalism, hatred of the new york yankees is critical to the development of revolutionary consciousness

Redsox vs the yankees is a legitimate national liberation struggle.

Say, the prospects for revolution in Pittsburgh aren't looking so good these days.

Best Yankees Stadium memory: about 20,000 fans shouting "George Must Go!" ca. 1990 (and it wasn't about George Bush, Sr. either).

Best Shea Stadium memory: Learning that just because all the toilets and urinals are taken doesn't mean the sinks are off limits. Then walking back to Flushing at about 1am with my grandfather who was either too cheap to pay for another subway transfer or wanted to scare the shit out of me.

Certain comrades who shall remain nameless once send me home from New York with a Yankees cap. I think they wanted to get me mugged!

Best Fenway memory: Got roofbox tickets from a junky for 5 bucks a piece. There's these two kids running around. The littler one grabs the railing. Realizes there's mustard all over it, makes this face like it was the most disgusting thing ever... then looks around to make sure no one's watching him and licks it off.

The the sox lost to the yankees 5-4 or something. Whatev.

I wonder where the junkie got the roofbox tickets from...what about steroid junkies? I'm curious to hear the opinions on the use of performance enhancing drugs in baseball, and how anarchists think it should be regulated, if at all (of course, dealing with it in the context of who runs the sport)

I'm afraid, david, support for the Atlanta Braves and their "tomahawk chop" is thoroughly counter-revolutionary. I took great joy in participating in the riots after perhaps the greatest World Series ever, in 1991 when the champions of the people Minnesota Twins (best name in baseball) took Atlanta in seven.

We did the same in 87 after defeating the Cardinals . . . but found a political justification a little harder wink

I agree with Hammerin Hank's sentiment that if his record is broken by a juiced player he wouldn't think it counted. The drugs are bad for the game and bad for the players health. On the other hand, it's damn hypocritcal of the owners who push to fill seats and sell broadcast ads to condemn the players.
Its utimately up to the players to self regulate when they realize they're probably shortening the lifes for greedy bastards like Steinbrenner or even worse corporate ownership like Liberty Media. At least with individual owners like George or Ted Turner you knew who to hate!

I'm waiting for the ICC to denounce baseball any second now...

Yeah, I know, I've picketed the stadium with AIM and signed things to try to get them to change.

Also, truth be told, I'm not that huge a fan, I mostly started this thread to get under the skin of some snarky Brits wink

Don't get me wrong, I like old man Cox (come on, Bobby, you can get tossed out a couple more times for the record!) and Aaron and the other greats who've played for the team over the years, but the name is long overdue for a change.

I'm afraid the hard core fans, those idiots who sit there waving their arms up and down night after night won't go for it, but for discussion, any suggestions?

the players league was revolutionary, but the capitalists crushed it. we must learn from history.

Isn't it just rounders but instead of girls in P.E. skirts they've got men in multi-coloured uniforms and silly hats? I'll never understand Americans...

Do rounders pitchers fairly routinely throw the ball at radar measured speeds of over 100 miles an hour?

Could a rounders batter do this?

Regardless of possible exaggerations there have been many great hitters in the world of baseball. Although we may never be able to know for sure what the farthest hit baseball was, we can assume a range from different sources and that's from about 150 - 200 m (500 - 650 feet).

Sexist.

Edit - also, it's a bowler. A pitcher is something you put liquid in tongue
