online games

I can't make vista play Mega lo mania, earthworm jim or either syndicate game so I looked for games online. They're pretty much all shit.

this one is ok in a bit of a shit way. If those backward fucks in Madagascar had built an airport I'd have killed everybody smile

why don't you play proper games?

27 August, 2008 - 23:54

you can change the settings to make those games work you n00b. ask on a gaming forum, nobody will flame you there. smile

27 August, 2008 - 23:58

nah I reckon he'll need Dos Box to make those oldies work.

still doesn't answer why he doesn't play anything more recent.

28 August, 2008 - 00:23

I want to play old games because I like them.
I have dosbox but it won't install because vista is blocking it. I did find a fix but it is a bit complicated, I can't find the 'stop being a cunt and just let me do what the fuck I want instead of constantly trying to make me do shit I want and opening shitty programs I don't need.' option anywhere.
Even winamp has evolved into a complete cunt.

syndicate wars appears to be hard to run in Dosbox via Vista.

Earth Worm Jim was shite when it came out and is even shitter now.

get yourself so classics that run fine in XP and set Vista to XP compatiability mode.

may I suggest half life, total war, another world and deus ex.

28 August, 2008 - 00:47

I have shogun Total War. I'll have a look at the other games, I need to get myself a safe bit torrent client first.

Syndicate Wars was always a real problem with compatibility. As far as I can tell they used a weird configuration to design and test it. Probably too used to the Amiga and ST which had standard configurations.

I'd like to upgrade to TW rome or medieval but I don't think my feeble comp can handle them sad

28 August, 2008 - 00:49

what you mean you need a safe bit torrent client first, what's wrong with utorrent?

28 August, 2008 - 01:00

I want to get an older version from before they got bought out by bittorrent. It's not really hard to find I am just a bit lazy. I found the link before but closed it without downloading for some reason.

why do you want an older version?

28 August, 2008 - 01:07

The idea is that the older versions will be less likely to have spy stuff in there. It's a bit paranoid I supppose.

none of them have spy stuff in them, why would you assume they do? are you mental?

Ever since the official bittorrent people bought out utorrent it has been seen as less trustworthy. Mainly because BT works in partnership with the MPAA.

no they just have an agreement to take down any copyrighted material that the MPAA requests from their own trackers. If the MPAA or anyone else want to go after people for downloading torrents they don't need any special relationships with torrent clients, they just check the visible IP's that are uploading a particular file, visible in all clients.

28 August, 2008 - 01:43

http://oldversion.com/ will have old utorrent if you're still looking, jef.

28 August, 2008 - 02:27

Thanks Asher, I think that's where I was looking earlier.

28 August, 2008 - 03:48

I agree with Revol, get half life. But he's wrong about Earthworm Jim.

28 August, 2008 - 04:27

I only ever played a demo, I used to like the cartoon though.

28 August, 2008 - 06:36

Yeah, the cartoon was good. I remember liking the Mario cartoon too.

28 August, 2008 - 08:07

Earthworm Jim cartoon was brilliant.

28 August, 2008 - 08:14

Jef, if you're wanting good old games i'd recommend system shock 2.

Also, grab a snes emulator. Easy to run (i'd go with zsnes) and then you can get hundreds of roms easily, and just load them so avoid setting up every game individually.

28 August, 2008 - 08:17

urgh, just got the worst flashback of sitting in revol's while the wob fanatically played a demo of some war based game, i'm pretty sure he slipped away from the bookfair early to play it then left us locked out of the house. this time last year fucking sucked.

28 August, 2008 - 08:39

Chess at http://www.chess.com/ anybody?
My user name is Devrim the same as on here.
Devrim

28 August, 2008 - 10:53

Does the snes emulator need to run in a full window?
Where can I get the roms from? For amiga gams I go to abandonia or moby games.

bittorrent
also quite a lot here http://romhustler.net/

28 August, 2008 - 11:31

Roms are easy to find, either torrent or even google. I think zsnes runs in a window not fullscreen. If not there will be another good emu that will, i remember there were about 3 good ones when i last looked.

I ended up installing hitman 2. I like killing people.

Vista is a piece of shit.

1 September, 2008 - 08:42

There's always kriegspiel

1 September, 2008 - 18:21

probably not what you're looking for, but if you like Dr. Mario, you might get a kick out of "Stack the Cat" laugh out loud
