As Marx said, religion is 'the heart of a heartless world'. I wouldn't be so quick to take the piss, especially if national or ethnic stereotypes on credulity are being bandied about in an explicit or not-so-explicit way, from a 'secularer than thou' perspective. I'm surprised no-one's said 'Tree fellers wanted'. Gotta admit it does look like a grinning woman with a baby in a sling.

If anything, ever, lived up to a stereotype, its this.
Its Father Ted, only real.
Im not sure if its funny or depressing.
Or both.

It's defo both funny and depressing. I particularly liked 'John Sheridan: Local' and his contribution:
"'tis somethin diffrunt; 'tis about time somethin nice happind in de town'

and the quoteboxes were amazing: 'i'll kill again'

Did someone have to make one for you to demonstrate the difference?
Might explain some of the threads you start.

Dan Flynn, visitor, had this to add:
'that's Our Lady there, one million percent'

This 'worshipping a tree stump' is the kind of 'fetishism' - critiqued by Victorian anthropologists - which itself offers a critique (albeit imperfect) of what, I think, Rimbaud called 'the same bourgeois magic everywhere' of commodity fetishism.

Some of those comments on youtube are gold as well:

I liked the "Help" bubble from the tiny narrow window at the top of the church tower.. cool

But the stump itself and people gettin' excited about it .. neutral

At least it was a good chance for the speech bubble adder to display their skills...

That isn't John Sheridan... It's that Donal McIntyre, the undercover investigator from Countdown's "Dictionary Corner" (which is odd, 'cos I always thought Weeler was Donal).

Aha. That explains everything - he used his ex-KGB/Mafiya/Gazprom Oligarch connections to get published in the Evening Standard. No wonder he's afraid of men bearing umbrellas. Nuff said.
