Patriarchy, does it really benefit men??? A study of sexual behaviour

Submitted by ImprovedLenin on 25 August, 2007 - 01:12.

Patriarchy, like extreme capitalism, benefits only a priviliged caste of men. Now, as many of you know, countless pickup books have been written, countless desperate men frequent bars and nightclubs to looks for ever-alluding women, countless crimes are committed for sexual deprivation reasons (suicide bombimg to reach a heaven with 70 virgins, killing people because others were getting it and you were not, etc.) Isn't it coincidental that the very things a woman looks for in a man in capitalist society is exactly the thing men aim for according to the rule of patriarchy, money, power, popularity etc. Patriarchy allows only a very small minority of men to dominate the sexual sphere, whereas the rest of mankind languishes in loneliness, and emotional poverty. It is paradoxical that the overthrow of the patriarchy could change women's perceptions and expectations of men, and make the playing field of love more level.

Yes, but what exactly are these ladies making allusions to?

Hmm britian and the US aren't wholly patriarchal societies. They're sexist, but patriarchy refers to a specific set of family and property relations embedded in law and a set of family relations which are increasingly becoming somewhat anachronistic. However, I would say that if you studied genuinely hardcore patriarchal societies like 17th century britain then it was fairly demonstrable that the vast majority of men didn't own property and weren't obove 30 and thus didn't meet the patriarchal ideal of the father.

While i may or may not languish in loneliness and emotional poverty i think there are clearer ways of demonstrating that sexism doesn't particularly benefit men. For example, in war, whether the military is professional or whther its made up of conscript soldiers, it will still be mostly made up of men.

Not in Israel though - they're miles ahead of us. wall

Ha ha. You must be such a minger. Emotions aren't worth much anyway, it's a bit like having a poverty of donkeys. Thank you patriarchy. Tip: Try older, more ugly, women, they're more desperate.

haha man, some of you guys sound really angry and irritable. At least I'm cool about it. I think 3rd poster is right, we ALL need to get laid, otherwise we wouldn't be on this forum on a saturday night. But on a more serious note, I agree with the poster above that sexism does not oppress only women but also the vast underclass of men who don't live up to the near impossible masculine ideal. The handsome, rich, powerful and popular male. Why else do I go to the gym 5 times a week, spend 300 dollars on protein powder, spend thousands in fashion and hairstyling, make so many friends just to look for connections, and nearly 2000 dollars in plastic surgery. I myself am a slave and victim of a system which renews its ideal of a male nearly every 5 years.

I think emotional want is also as important as physical want, as demonstrated by the mind-body connection. No shit, stressed and depressed people are more likely ot suffer diseases like tuberculosis or mild discomforts like helicobacter pylori simply because tehy feel bad. THen there's the question that since we have only one life lived on earth, why not jsut live it to the best our minds can manage?

that's repellent, no girl i know would touch someone like that.

real life ain't fucking hollywood ffs, actually even hollywood isn't hollywood anymore.

jesus fucking christ the good lord put emo on this world for a reason.

25 August, 2007 - 17:24

also you're a cunting law student, maybe girls aren't interested because law students give off creepy vibes, afterall people who know too much about the law are generally wrong'uns.

25 August, 2007 - 17:28

i dunno about that revol, but law students are generally viewed with respect and sophistication in the community I live in. However, the campus I live in is like nothing like hollywood displays. I expected students having sex all the time. Instead, I'm surrounded by whinging lonely clueless guys like me, some of who have never kissed a girl. In my entire campus, only 2 out of 100 residents have gotten laid in the past 6 months. only 10% have gotten a pash. I myself lost my virginity to a prostitute, and will start depending on them on a regular basis ifmy dry season does not lift in another few days. I'm surrounded by lonely alienated men. What happened to the sexual revolution????

25 August, 2007 - 17:29

Jesus christ.

25 August, 2007 - 17:37

lol

the sexual revolution wasn't so losers could get laid.

jesus christ maybe if you stop fixating on getting laid so much it might happen, i dunno maybe speak to a girl without giving off the 'i just want a fuck' vibe.

though this might be the problem, what fucking community do you live in?

Stop hanging around fucking nerds, or atleast go find the alternative nerds, people who've learnt to work with what they've got rather than trying to emulate the vomit inducing preppy ambercombie and finch catalogue models.

25 August, 2007 - 17:50

those guys are sexy man, thats why girls want them. Not that I want or should be like them though...

what exactly was the sexual revolution for? So everyone could get laid, including your 'losers'.

25 August, 2007 - 17:55

This just gets creepier and creepier.

25 August, 2007 - 18:03

lol

okay look at this girl, she's cute, she's got a wee bit of a belly, who cares.

would i love go out with heror some fucking gymn bunny like this?

who the fuck wants to curl up to a fucking cheese grater?

wankers like this?

let them fuck each other and you find someone interesting.

Once upon a time I copped off with a girl looked a lot like that.

The point IL is that the patriarchal model isn't one that we want to follow so don't bother. And as Revol says, if all you want to do is get laid then you won't manage it. desperation is not a turn on unless the person is out of your league.

It makes me think of Average Joe, where all these ugly losers were simpering about how much they hoped the girl would see their personalities (they assumed that because they were unattractive that they had nice ones) but their interest in her was based solely on her looks.

Cos you don't know how to weight-train properly I'd say. 3-4 times a week is plenty. Focus on pushing big weights with the multi-joint exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bench press, shoulder press and chinups.

Maybe he's going to the gym 5 times a week to pick up boys. There's always things like 'cocks sucked here 4-5pm Mondays' written on the toilet walls at my gym.

well yeah from what he's said it actually sounds like he's more into getting high fives and 'pats' on the back from 'the boys' than girls, but still it's the ladies he claims to be after.

Bodybuilders are much more mens' ideal men than they are womens'. Likewise catwalk models are womens' ideal women.

true, but really high fashion and it's models are just the vicious revenge fantasies of patriarchial gay men.

LOL! you guys offensiveness really made me laugh haha. A year ago, I would have fumed against you, but I am perfectly comfortable with my heterosexuality so I don't really mind if someone jokes around about me being gay. smile

Fact of the matter is, sadly I'm not gay. I just want to form intimate relationships with women. Believe me, I'm not into one night stands, more like ten night stands. I was just wondering whether this weird game of love people play nowadays had anythign to do with patriarchy, and beyond a doubt it does. Sexism and patriarchal ideals permeate society, to the point where simple social activities like just wanting to get laid becomes a complicated acitvity, while our primitive communist ancestors probably behaved more like our ape cousins e.g. bonobo apes who have sex as part of social intereaction. Maybe thats why we are all so fucckked up.

The force of culture on sexual behaviour is clearly evident. Take and asian and western country for example, and sexual behaviour is directly correlated with the conservativeness of culture. Women's expectations are often closely matched, if not identical, to the ideals imposed by patriarchy.
