Half decent camera and decent battery and memory capacity.

Get a shit pay-as-you-go-phone and spend the surplus on a Nintendo DSi. You can have hours of fun pretending to be in Hakim Bey's home video collection with the distortion functions (cf avatar). If you've got a laptop/notebook why bother getting a mobile that does the same shit only worse?

If you don't want anything fancy, you can get the Nokia 5800 pretty cheap - has okay internet and good MP3 player, and is a decent enough smart phone - if you want something a bit more versatile, you could get a Nokia N96?

If you seriously just want to make phone calls / texts on it then to be honest just buy a cheap handset outright on ebay or somewhere like that (the Nokia 5800 is like £150 new so you could get it for next to nothing used), and get a sim only contract - I get 800 minutes, 1600 texts and unlimited internet for £20 a month.

Get an xbox. My housemate says you can get burnt games for xbox but not for ps3, so he's buying an xbox. When The Grudge videogame comes out, hire a Wii for a weekend, IF YOU DARE. That's what I'm gonna do. You use the magic wii controller to control a flashlight, it'll be really scary.
