I was actually properly saddened by that news.

"Here, I got this bonza crocodile, now I'm gonna stick my hand up it's ass and make it really angry, and dangle my own child in front of it's face!"

I spent a good half an hour looking for a clip or picture of Cartman being crocodile hunter.
I couldn't find one sad

I find it hard to have much sympathy for the bloke, you spend enough time pulling crocodiles' tails, one of them is going to turn around bite.

Must be awful for his wife and kid though sad

Someone just told me that (supposedly) he is only the third person known to have been killed by a stingray. They are the things they have in the petting pools at aquariums. He must have really pissed it off! eek

"Attacks on humans are a rarity - only one other person is known to have died in Australia from a stingray attack, at St Kilda, Melbourne in 1945."

Stingray spines are venomous, and although apparantly extremely painful, are not fatal. The ones in petting pools will be harmless variaties or have had their spines removed. Poor old Steve was super duper unlucky that the spine punctured his heart, otherwise he would have just got a nasty sting. The probability must be miniscule, but compounded by Steve approaching the animal from above, which is the area its tail arcs through to strike. I for one am dissapointed because I had my money on a croc or snake getting him. Nature as always played the wild card leaving most punters tearing up their tickets.

There's some idiotic anarchist over on revleft using the classic "Why should I care about the croc hunter when millions die every day as a result of this fucked up system" argument.

Oh to be young and righteous again. Oh wait.

Steve Irwin, like most liberal bussiness people, used conservation as a front for tax evasion. My fiance is a botanist and read in a magazine that Steve had bought a huge area of land and set it aside for "conservation and research" purposes. As she was looking for study sites she promptly contacted the foundation, only to be told it was actually his holiday residence!

Far from it. He said our reactionary little turd of a Prime Minister, John Howard, was the world's greatest leader or some such nonsense and went along to the BBQ Lil Johnny put on for Dubya when he was here in 2003. To his credit Steve Waugh, then captain of the Australian cricket team declined his invitation.

Yeah its very good!! Er.. I could never have done this - whatever amount of time you gave me.. embarrassed

I was upset about Steve til I read some of these latter comments - he DID sound pretty selfish and right-wing. However his enthusiasm for (non-pretty) animal life was pretty engaging - i understand quite a few kids were upset at his death so that is sad.

He actually had two kids - the youngest now two. What I find interesting is that when a father of young kids leads an "adventurous" life and indulges their whims and passions and either dies young or regularly risks dying young, the media/society rarely castigate him for this.If he dies in pursuit of his pleasure it is just deemed a tragedy. But when a MOTHER of young children practices a dangerous passion or has an inherently dangerous job, she is castigated. I remember a report a while back on the death of a femme mountaineer. She left behind a husband and two small kids and the media were VICIOUS in her choice to do this. "How could she risk her life - she was a mother etc etc..." Christ talk about kick a family when they are down...What VICIOUS patriarchy. As well as hammering women who dare to lead a less mundane life than the one society prescribes what does this say about the role of fathers then aussi?? Are they considered expendable??? Is their parenting role really that unimportant???? What do you think peeps?? If necessary we could transfer this to another forum....

Yours angrily

Love

Who gives a flying fuck?

He was still far more interesting than you, didn't dress like the missing Soviet member of the village people and more than likely had a more nuanced understanding of the Spanish Civil War.

I thought you'd done the world a favour and died.

I actually thought you got the short end of the stick in the whole ProudTaig fiasco but true to form as soon as I say anything you bring up the same old irrelevant shit.

Now fuck off you pathetic little boy and go jerk off over your homo-erotic CNT posters.

I can't believe you haven't been snotted yet for being such a prick on here.
