Ok to get a rough survey of libcommers, if you were pushed to it desert island stylee, which is your favourite sci fi series
* Star Trek
* Star Wars
* Star Gate
* Babylon 5
* Blakes 7
* New BSG
* Doctor Who (only put it in here because someone is bound to be this much of a nob)

You bastard!! I can't answer that!!! How could I choose just one? Desert island??? Would have to be a gun to the head mate to choose just one and even then i would prevaricate... tongue

Anyways Revol and John. will be glad to see this thread am sure and will have a lot of wisdom to impart.. wink

Wars v. Trek???? To the death!!

You could at least start the ball rolling by telling us your pick..

Wish we still had polls.... sad

Also i can confuse the issue still more by offering other options - original "Twilight Zone" for example... Classic!
And opening music.. do de do de do de do de... classic!!

Anyone who does not like sc-fi is an unimaginative knob... smile

Love

Star Wars easily, what's the point of doing a poll? Although its more a trilogy than a series (everything else is shit!).

For TV I would have to say Red Dwarf, and books Amtrak Wars...

New BSG without a doubt, even though the last few episodes have been filler shite. Firefly/Serenity was pretty good, too bad it got axed after one season. I really enjoyed Total Recall 2070, mostly based of P. K. Dick. If we bring in Anime in the mix I would have Ghost in the Shell SAC close to the top of my list.

There's also Space: Above and Beyond and Space 1999 (?) and Surface, though these are pretty poor.

Doctor Who (not new Who, the good stuff) every time - and why the fuck isn't Buffy on the list?

As deep as my entirely unjustifiable love for all things Stargate may be, it is pretty poor scifi.

Dude. Every week the U.S. military saves the universe, fighting for morals and ethics with a purpose far beyond self-interest. And that isn't brilliant science fiction?

My favourite one was when they went to the planet where women were being oppressed and totally kicked the head patriarch's face in wink

In order:
Doctor Who - except the Colin Baker episodes. Otherwise any of them.
Babylon 5 - the only American one that rates highly.
Stingray
Thunderbirds
Fireball XL5
And a very special mention to Starwreck:In the Perkinning http://www.starwreck.com

Babylon 5?! It was so shite they had to resort to showing it on Saturday mornings on Channel 4. I used to watch it when waiting for the cartoons!

Do I have to go for the full on academic beat down here? I can do it, just you watch. I'll rattle off five different definitions of sf all including Buffy before you've had chance to even start getting your geek on and then finish you with a quick one-two of the differences in genrefication between screen and print media. And then I'll do a big long-wordy poo on your still reeling geek crushed corpse.

Or possibly I might just get on with the work I'm putting off...

Yeah, everything to do with Star Wars apart from the original trilogy is shit, even Clone Wars, what's the point of doing 5 minute episodes?

As if there we no muppets in Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who.

I just watched "The Power of Kroll" last night.

Ah, but the muppets in Dr Who were always unpretentiously crap. So were the wobbly sets and awful effects.

What about Supercar?

farscape was awful, every character always had some shitty dark secret. The only thing that was vagualy acceptable about it was that the peacekeepers were the bad guys. Bjt apart from that it was like an angsty version of space preceinct or something. Andromeda was better, and that had kevin sorbo in it.

I'd have to say the new bsg or early babylon 5.

You are so full of it. Andromeda was the worst crap. I kept expecting Xena to show up.

Farscape was great. It's like the iron column affinity group of uncharted space. Deserters, anarchist assassins, thought criminals, laughable deposed monarchs.

Phrases and words are defined by common usage, not by some ivory tower academic scene.

And Farscape was a bit up itself.

www.tv-links.co.uk has most of it, I think.
