See the problem is, y'all...
"ironic" racism, homophobia, etc, are still racism, homophobia, etc. and don't really need to be associated with anarchism and communism. but wtf do i know, i'm just a yank leftist.

I don't see naything wrong with ironic racism, homophobia etc, so long as everyone knows its ironic, but on the internet not everyone's in on the same jokes as you so you need to take that into account.
Seconded... And I'm as guilty of grabbing the wrong - shitty?- end of the irony stick as the next person (especially when I'm moody like I was yesterday). Ultimately there's a whole body of evidence on this site to demonstrate most of the regular libcommunity posters' actual positions, and much of the ironic origin of the various jokes. If you can be bothered or have the time to look.
The real difficulty here isn't the nature of the "joke" (ironic or not); but the tendancy amongst many leftists to try to score points by reciting critical theorems where they just don't necessarily apply. It's often all a bit too much like a knee-jerk reaction for my tastes. It might just be worth remembering that aside from the odd troll, the majority of people are here because they recognise the value of the site as a whole, for all its faults.
No doubt I'll be first up against the wall for using all those qualified statements

Yeah, you're right. It's all shit. Like I even care.
I don't care what you want
thats the spirit

exactly. And almost all of the tens of thousands of people who stumble across this site won't be aware of that. If people want to do it in the pub or with their mates or whatever that's fine, but not on our political website.
thats fine really, cant argue with the will of the admins

which is why removing it from the tracker, like people were calling for at the start of this year, was a good idea, and making it viewable only by registered users would mean people who 'the tens of thousands of people who stumble across this site' don't see it
we cant reasonably ask for a place to post ironic racism/sexism tbh, not that there was much of that - it was more that just everything was up for slagging
Well i don't know anyone who asked for somewhere to post ironic racism/sexism.
haters.

Why do you need to ask? The evidence is in the thread(s). I've gone on elsewhere about the hijacking of the PC project by the Reaganite and Thatcherist administrations, and while I'm sympathetic to the idea of trying not to offend people I get genuinely very very angry when people try to close down my options: language is always changing and the sort of humour that's here on libcom reflects the speed of that change blah blah blah. Sure it can be offensive sometimes but it's pretty short-lived. Libcom isn't that influential as a change agent.
