Siblings with decent politics?
Just wondering if anyone has any siblings with decent politics? I was thinking about this earlier, and I couldnt think of anyone i knew or had met who had roughly the same politics as them (i.e. would be worthy of posting on libcom
).
My younger brother doesnt talk to me, but i asked him last week if he had heard about what had happened in France and he wasnt interested and hadnt heard
So have you got a bro or sis who shares politics with you? I know lots of people have parents who they share ideas with, but thats different somehow.
My younger brother doesnt talk to me.
In general? that sucks.
My older sister was a bit on the edge of the anarcho scene, but I think she liked squat parties more than politics. She's quite square now, left of capital.
Younger sister is barely left of capital, she's got a passing interest in politics but will never ever use them. I told her about France and she said it was cool but I reckon she'd scab a strike.
How Muslim are they refused? (you can use pictures if you want to demonstrate
)
In general? that sucks.
Yeah he doesnt really talk to anyone who isnt in his posse, so like anyone older than him (hes 16).
Yeah but rkn even if yr brother had actually hopped over on the eurostar to join the marches in France, he'd still say he didn't know, just to spite you
And anyway, you know me, and my sister and her girlfriend have good politics! Ok, not very developed or whatever but in general they've got most areas sorted, and don't hold any views I disagree with.
My little sister has no interest in politics at all - but she's 17 so why should she really. My brother is vaguely left wing, has an interest in politics and current affairs, but we've never really talked about politics tbh. Other than he thinks anarchism is ridiculous, but I think that's more he thinks my lifestyle is ridiculous than an actual political thing
I do know a Greek brother and sister who are both anarchists.
My brother, he was the first one in our family to go to uni, he fucked up but ended up getting quite a good job and moving to South Africa. He seems to have been quite assimilated into SA so I won't talk to him about politics, cos I really don't wanna know...
My sister's cool, she's nearly 40, very sociologically "working class", lived on a council estate forever, was an original punk, still has a fair bit of the punk attitude, very pro-animal rights and generally pro- people sticking up for themselves and not taking any shit. She started subscribing to Freedom when I was editing and really liked it, used to share it with her friends, AFAIK she still does. She used to have a pot of change she'd contribute to to give to me for my projects (Freedom then libcom) but then my nephew starting nicking it for fag/weed money
. She's not got net access, never used the net really, so not seen libcom. She's 8).
My nephews + niece are really like my siblings, I know my nephews have come across BNP and fascists on their sites (they're construction workers) but they've not been "recruited" - though their granddad who's their main male influence/role model is a really right-wing Daily Mail type. We don't talk about politics much, tho they don't like being fucked over, don't like that they do all the work + the bosses get the money (like everyone!), have spoken about unions and things but it's not really something they have any knowledge of. They seem generally anti-government, my younger nephew can on an anti-war demo with me and some old AYN people and liked it; they all loved the anti-capitalist summit protest films. I think there are some issues around asylum/Islam where they wouldn't be too progressive. Posting on libcom's not something I'd encourage them to do mind, cos political discussion is pretty alien to them really (politics was never spoken in the house).
Youngest brother is 15...hard to tell with him. The other one is 18 and he's pretty devout (and apparently a creationist). He once asked me if I was going to vote for the Lib Dems and when I replied that I would not be voting he said, "But the Lib Dems are the good guyz, lolz*!" I wanted to punch him in the face.
*Added for emphasis
Nope. Neither my older brother nor younger sister are interested in politics. Though I suspect they have some sympathy with the stuff I come out with - either that or they're just humouring me. Having said this, my older brother (who's now in his early 50s) used do security with some mates from his factory for ANL meetings in the mid 70s. This was when the NF were pretty big. He's the proverbial body-building brick shithouse, hard as fuck and not the kind of bloke you'd want to fall foul of. From what I hear, he was a credit to the Forward* family name.
* NB: Obviously, Forward isn't our real family name but he is called Serge. Serge Trousers.
my older sister lives with her adoptive parents and is a middle class snob, my younger brother is becoming a wannabe thug and knows nothing about politics. he doesn't care at all. my other siblings I have never met so that is yet to be seen.
My sister's a politics graduate from Sussex, and hated the (pretty left wing, for a SU) student union there, cos it kept getting everything shut down and shutting itself down or something. She just saw it really inefficient. I think she associates with the Lib Dems, and was gonna write her dissertation on how if the far left hadn't existed for the last 10 years, it wouldn't have made the slightest bit of difference to the UK, just to spite me!! She couldn't find enough material though (although I recommended her LOADS) and ended up doing Le Penn.
To be fair, she's an improvement on my folks.

Le Pen.
Sussex SU is full of trot wannabes, they'll all be ICC in a few years.
Everyone in the world is shit.

I insulted Sussex Uni, which is where my ex hangs, my hatred for Alan_is_fucking_Dead is due to his changing his name.
I changed my name because I am a bitch

I've run out, but I will stop.
I still do think that it is wrong that Alan_is_fucking_Dead changed his username.
my brother is Rob Ray.
my little brother is a hardcore kid and straight-edger. So he pays lipservice to animal rights and anti-racism, because its in the lyrics. He also throws out my cigarettes and calls them flaming cancer sticks of death.
My sister (we're irish twins) is a racist pig cop and security forces in the airforce. (she polices other soldiers, fucker)
My dad is a Teamster union steward and a member of TDU (teamsters for a democratic union) a left council in the union.
My Mom is a Green.
My Grandmother that helped raise me is the daughter of German communists who resisted hitler, was an ILGWU member, and thinks gays should be able to get married, but is a democrat now.
My Paternal Grandparents are electrician Trade Unionists who supported the IRA, but are generally jingoistic when it comes to american politics. Basically their culturally conservative racist democrats. They do hate this war though.
My paternal uncle is an environmentalist and works for a think tank that designs and consults about green transportation systems.
My maternal uncle is a socialist machinist but is anti-union.
My paternal aunt is a moderatly lefty, but has worked in vivesection labs, though now she's a teacher.
All of my family is in agreement about one thing though. They all really really really hate this war.
My brother and sister could vaguely be described as left wing, because that's what my parents could vaguely be described as. None of them understand anarchism though. One of my uncles is a Jesuit and another one is a colonel in the army who buys anti-terrorist equipment.
Haha I'm fucked.
My brother's Sorry/Jack Ray, our immediate family tend towards liberalism (though have definitely become more left wing since we got radical) and our less immediate family are Tories and godbotherers (apart from one apolitical cousin).
Love em all to bits mind, when our (very right wing) grandparents were told about our politics, they decided that since it was us, we couldn't possibly be doing anything other than helping society 8).
is he?
what's he done wrong?
BOOM BOOM
He nearly got arrested for drugs possession once, for which he was very sorry indeed (at least til the cops left, at which point he got quite pissed off cos they weren't his)
my brother (17) doesn't seem to have much in the way of politics really, tho i'd guess left-of-capital (he did however do his work experience at the benefits office and developed a tendency to take the piss out of "chavs", tho in fairness primarily for music and clothing taste rather than class reasons)... he did, like me, grow up on a council estate with the only university-educated parents there, so he's probably a bit of an intellectual snob but not a class one...
he doesn't know i'm an anarchist tho, nor do my parents, cos i developed my politics while totally estranged from them and only later got back in touch...
parents are bookish, somewhat socially conservative old-labourites, as far as i can tell took a neutral stance on the iraq war.
not too bad really (esp considering i know at least 2 anarchists with siblings who actually support the BNP
)...
My sister's a rvaing capitalist - well she'd like to be - however, my son's an anarchist, we're the only AF family, Mr Mrs and Master Knightrose Sadly little Miss Knightrose thinks she's a lib dem - but opposes the war, was the only one from her college to go on the students demo in Manchester a couple of years back, hates the NF,BNP, was road protesting at the age of 10, supports No Borders - I guess she's just going through a rebellion stage against her mum and dad. Master Knightrose is more conformist. Do you think Refused could design us a Happy Families suit?
Well my sister has an anarchist partner who posts on here
Her politics have always been to the left and are similar to a lot of normal working class people's in terms of understanding what's good and what's not.
My brother used to hang around with people who liked Adolf hitler. He's not really right wing, just a bit racist, and tends to go along with a lot of populist stuff. He does mind his Ps and Qs round me and my sister/her partner, but I only see him about twice a year.
My Dad is totally confused about politics, thinks The Sun is a traditional Labour paper, sort of supports the Lib Dems but doesn't really know why. Heart's in the right place though.
Regards,
martin

Gooo on! who is it?! Own up!
i know who it is, and it means I have to be nice to them cos MartinH is such a sound fella.

Hahahah!!! How old is he?? Where's he at?? Most US straight edgers I've come across wear shorts all year round, and are wannabe jocks. Mind you, they're better than the fuckin Profane Existence punks.
Real life quote from my Granddad at Heathrow airport (as relayed to me by my sanctimoniously liberal sister), after having just been served by a very helpful and friendly black check in assistant:
My sister: well she was very helpful wasn't she??
My Dad: Yes she was.
My Granddad: Well if she was that good, maybe you should give her some bananas!!

he's fifteen.

I have two younger brothers but they're both [still] Muslims, as are the rest of my family. They're all pretty conservative apart from one of my cousins. When I talk to the middle brother about stuff he comes off as really fucking ignorant and has a major attitude about being corrected or even reasoned with.
