suitable songs for funerals

Submitted by ein auslander on 30 January, 2008 - 22:25.

so a previous discussion got me thinking, what shall i have played?

It's got to be the eternal optimism of Simply redL

Holding back the years,
Thinking of the fear Ive had for so long.
When somebody hears,
Listen to the fear thats gone.
Strangled by the wishes of pater,
Hoping for the arm of mater,
Get to me sooner or later,

Nothing ever could, yeah.
Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on.

Chance for me to escape from all I know.
Holding back the tears.
Theres nothing here has grown.
Ive wasted all my tears,
Wasted all those years.
Nothing had the chance to be good,

Nothing ever could, yeah.
Ill keep holding on,

Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on,
Ill keep holding on
So tight.

When I went through my bogan phase (many years back) I thought this song would be dandy to play at my funeral

Life it seems, will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free

Things are not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this cant be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now hes gone

No one but me can save myself, but its too late
Now I cant think, think why I should even try

Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death greets me warm, now I will just say good-bye

Well sheeeiit, if we're posting lyrics. They're nice, and materialist. Serious, after love song, these are my favourite Cure lyrics.

"Where The Birds Always Sing"

The world is neither fair nor unfair
The idea is just a way for us to understand
But the world is neither fair nor unfair
So one survives
The others die
And you always want a reason why

But the world is neither just nor unjust
It's just us trying to feel that there's some sense in it
No, the world is neither just nor unjust
And though going young
So much undone
Is a tragedy for everyone

It doesn't speak a plan or any secret thing
No unseen sign or untold truth in anything...
But living on in others, in memories and dreams
Is not enough
You want everything
Another world where the sun always shines
And the birds always sing
Always sing...

The world is neither fair nor unfair
The idea is just a way for us to understand
No the world is neither fair nor unfair
So some survive
And others die
And you always want a reason why

But the world is neither just nor unjust
It's just us trying to feel that there's some sense in it
No, the world is neither just nor unjust
And though going young
So much undone
Is a tragedy for everyone

It doesn't mean there has to be a way of things
No special sense that hidden hands are pulling strings
But living on in others, in memories and dreams
Is not enough
And it never is
You always want so much more than this...

An endless sense of soul and an eternity of love
A sweet mother down below and a just father above
For living on in others, in memories and dreams
Is not enough
You want everything
Another world
Where the birds always sing
Another world
Where the sun always shines
Another world
Where nothing ever dies...

Pete Rock & CL Smooth - They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y)

EASY choice. the most positive and dope dedication song i've ever heard. it's ALL about those horns.

31 January, 2008 - 00:24

and if we're posting the lyrics,

Quote:
Intro:

(I reminisce, I reminisce) x3
I reminisce, I reminisce
Uh! (I reminisce, I reminisce)
Yeah (I reminisce, I reminisce)
(I reminisce, I reminisce)
(I reminisce, I reminisce)

Verse One:

[CL]

I reminisce for a spell, or shall I say think back
22 years ago to keep it on track
The birth of a child on the 8th of October
A toast but my granddaddy came sober
Countin all the fingers and the toes
Now I suppose, you hope the little black boy grows, huh
18 years younger than my mama
But I really got beatings cause the girl loved drama
In single parenthood there I stood
By the time she was 21, had another one
This one's a girl, let's name her Pam
Same father as the first but you don't give a damn
Irresponsible, plain not thinking
Papa said chill but the brother keep winking
Still he won't down you or tear out your hide
On your side while the baby maker slide
But mama got wise to the game
The youngest of five kids, hon here it is
After 10 years without no spouse
Momma's gettin married in the house
Listen, positive over negative for the women and master
Mother Queen's risin a chapter
Deja vu, tell you what I'm gonna do
When they reminisce over you, my God

[Pete Rock]

My God
It's so...
Yeah, so lovely
That's how we like to do it in the 90's
Pete Rock & CL Smooth comin' atcha...

Verse Two:

[CL]

When I date back I recall a man off the family tree
My right hand Poppa Doc I see
Took me from a boy to a man so I always had a father
When my biological didn't bother
Taking care of this so who am I to bicker
Not a bad ticker but I'm clocking pop's liver
But you can never say that his life is through
5 kids at 21 believe he got a right too
Here we go while I check the scene
With the Portugese lover at the age of 14
The same age, front page, no fuss
But I bet you all your dough, they live longer than us
Never been senile, that's where you're wrong
But give the man a taste and he's gone
Noddin off, sleep to a jazz tune
I can hear his head banging on the wall in the next room
I get the pillow and hope I don't wake him
For this man do cuss, hear it all in verbatim
Telling me how to raise my boy unless he's taking over
I said pop maybe when you're older
We laughed all night about the hookers at the party
My old man standing yelling good God, almighty
Use your condom, take sips of the brew
When they reminisce over you, for real

[Pete Rock]

For real, baby
Like that
We for real
Comin' atcha...
In '92
Pete Rock & CL Smooth
Yeah, c'mon, hit me!

Verse Three:

[CL]

I reminisce so you never forget this
The days of wayback, so many bear witness the fitness
Take the first letter out of each word in this joint
Listen close as I prove my point
T to the R-uh-O-Y, how did you and I meet?
In front of Big Lou's, fighting in the street
But only you saw what took many time to see
I dedicate this to you for believing in me
Rain or shine, yes in any weather
My grandmom Pam holds the family together
My Uncle Doc's the greatest better yet the latest
If we're talking about a car, Uncle Sterling got the latest
I strive to be live 'cause I got no choice
And run my own business like my Aunt Joyce
So Pete Rock hit me, nuff respect due
When they reminisce over you, listen

[Pete Rock]

Listen, just listen
To the funky song as I rock on
And that's word is bond
I'm not playin
Everybody, just coolin
This song we dedicate
To the one and only
Never be another
he was my brother
Trouble T-Roy
It's like that y'all
And you don't stop
Pete Rock and CL Smooth for '92
And we out, later

Who sample that? In was listening to something with it sampled the other week. Might have been the Coup or J5.

31 January, 2008 - 00:31

um. i think it's been done in a few. all i can remember right now is the first track on Jehst's 'falling down' album where "i dedicate this to you for believing in me" is scratched.

other than acapellas though, that song shouldn't be sampled. shouldn't be touched, WAY too classic. it's like the perfect hip-hop song. everything about it is just RIGHT.

Yeah yuda!!!! Way to go with Fade to Black. I even did the whole play the song over and over just to see if it was true that it could make you wanna top yourself laugh out loud Still here though and even though haven't listened to them for years I still think that anything before ...and justice for all was their best work. ROCK ON! gregg.

Gotta be the Manics.

Condemned to Rock n Roll wrote:
Always feeling torn and slow
Love song cull destroy poem
Misery and trauma making love
Best go shoot the fucking doves
The past is so beautiful
The future like a corpse in snow
I think it's all the fucking same
It's a life sentence babe

A line of vodka tears inside
A shot of boredom helps my mind
Staring through a thousand dead eyes
I guess my nerves are brutalised

Lips I kiss just another plague
Love can't fix the hole they made
Condemned to rock n'
Condemned to rock n' roll

No innocent exit when hope dies
And claustrophobia buys my mind
I ran to breathe contagious lies
No reasons for just living life
Ripcord opens but my soul is cold
With you I never felt more alone
Skin never sweating dignity
Kept my line beneath ecstasy

This fragile prison of sanity
An ocean wave to death babe
Masochistic love going nowhere
You're nothing, pestilience, a seed

Lips I kiss just another plague
Love can't fix the hole they made
Condemned to rock n'
Oblivions all we know

Lips I kiss just another plague
Lips I kiss just another plague
Love can't fix the hole they made

Sterile like a line of piss, motherfucker
Review with avant garde lips, you're just a motherfucker

There's nothing I wanna see
There's nowhere I wanna go

tiny tim, tiptoe through the tulips.

best funeral song... ever.

Tiptoe through the window
By the window, that is where I'll be
Come tiptoe through the tulips with me

Oh, tiptoe from the garden
By the garden of the willow tree
And tiptoe through the tulips with me

Knee deep in flowers we'll stray
We'll keep the showers away
And if I kiss you in the garden, in the moonlight
Will you pardon me?
And tiptoe through the tulips with me

31 January, 2008 - 06:34

getting rock music (especially condemned to rock and roll, what the fuck are you thinking you mental twat?) played at your funeral, where your family will be is the moral equivalent of buying them ethical christmas presents, or paedophilia.

31 January, 2008 - 12:41

Jack'll be buried in his Newcastle Football shirt and have Gazza's "Fog on the Tyne" played.
