Submitted by Steven. on 21 May, 2007 - 15:39.

Hello all,

we received the very sad news in our myspace account that Sam Roberts, tumble-weed, died earlier this month.

If anyone who knew him has anything to say please do so, so that comments can be passed on to his family.

Heard about this a couple of weeks ago. Sad news, he was a decent guy. Very unique person. Every time I saw him he always had a smile on his face and looked as though he was having a good time, so that's something at least.

that's awful...

didnt even vaguely know the guy, but it's really too bad. hope he rests in peace. sad

Well done to John. for starting this thread.

It is always sad to lose a comrade particularly one so young. sad

I didn't know the guy but a look at his My Space reveals a young guy who appeared to touch a lot of people's hearts and who made quite an impact. I don't think it is a coincidence that a lot of people who die young appear to have made a great impact on others - i think this is part of quite a "live fast die young " kinda philosophy and lifestyle. But no mere hedonist- his kindness and thought of others is revealed in some of his struggle choices - the Reclaim March, AR etc.

Quite a guy - i would like to have known him.

Thought his username choice turned out to be pretty movingly appropriate. cry

And the most poignant aspect of the MySpace was under did he want children when he said: Undecided. Damn tragic it was decided for him.

However sounds like he crammed more into one short life than most peeps do with the full three score and ten or whatever.

Scary - he was just a little younger than I am now.

I can't say I even remember chatting with him but its still very sad...

this really is sad. from his myspace photos i can't tell if i ever met him, but i think i might have done at the anarchism and sexuality conference a while back. that makes it more shit, not knowing whether or not you've met someone

22 May, 2007 - 09:29

yeah it's well shit, wasn't he involved in organising the mixed reclaim the night march in Ipswich?

22 May, 2007 - 09:34

^ think so yep sad

don't really know what to say like

22 May, 2007 - 09:37

Yeah he was. Took a bit of flak for organising it 'cause of not being a wombyn, but persisted nonetheless. Absolutely great guy, so many people have been affected by his death, it's touching to know that he made an impact on so many people.

If anyone knew him and feels they want to attend the funeral but doesn't know details, PM me. If all goes to plan there'll be a memorial gig in the summer too.

he was good friends with some of my mates in london - tho i never met him - and they are well cut up.

It seems a real tragedy.

[edit] and i did talk to him on here now that i look at it - he was sound sad

I only knew him from his posts on here, and stuff I heard from his friends, but he seemed like a genuinely good guy. 21 is far too young sad

I never knew the guy outside of here, really tragic, just been going through his posts and its so sad thinking he's no longer with us, condolences go out to all his friends and family.

This is sad. I'd never heard of tumble-weed before just now.
What to say, he sounds like someone who answered the "are you a lifestyeist or a revolutionary?" question with a loud YES!
My kinda guy.

My girlfriend and I met Sam twice over the last few months as he was good friends with one of our close friends, and he was a really lovely guy that we were both looking forward to getting to know better, so we were really shocked and saddened to hear about his death. I don't really know what else to say, other than I hope his friends and family can get through this.

sad

I met him a few times on the then burgeoning Ipswich/Colchester anarcho scene. Nice guy, very committed, very passionate.

A lovely guy who will be sorely missed. I didn't know him very well, but he was always fun to be around. He wrote for Now or Never! a few times and was always very passionate and clear in his beliefs. We went to his funeral yesterday which was lovely, his family and close friends spoke beautifully and our thoughts are with them.

Sam was a good friend of mine, and an eye-opener.

I couldn’t get past the shocking hyperbole of Homocult’s queer theory and their attack on Gender, and why it was a neccesary part of Anarchist struggle.

Sam explained it to me in 3 lines on MSN.

I didn’t realise why it wasn’t right to send the angry guy with the hammer [Ladyfest 07] to prison, until Sam told me.

I am now a prison Abolishionist.

Five sex workers were murdered in Ipswich. Sun Journalist ball-bag Richard Littlejohn described the acts as ‘an occupational hazard’.

Sam, who lived in Ipswich, organised the Reclaim the Night march. It was a huge success.

I didn't know what 'I can't believe X is dead' until now.
