UFC on Fox 2

In what I think is a first for libcom I thought I'd start a thread about a UFC event before it happens.

In the 3 main fights I've got:

Evans over Davis
Sonnen over Bisping
Maia over Weidman

Don't know enough about any of the undercard fighters to make predictions. It'd be nice to see Mike Russow, Chicago cop and bearer of what could be described as a flesh lifebelt have his arm broken Mir style by BJJ ace JOE.

As much as it makes me sad to admit it I want Sonnen to win so that Silva can fuck him up properly in the rematch. If anyone thinks that won't happen watch the start of the 4th round of their fight to see what an intact ribbed Silva can do to Sonnen.

I can't fucking stick Sonnen but I think his wrestling will be far too much for Bisping. Sonnen by unanimous decision if he doesn't ground n pound Bising in rd2.
Maia by submission.
Rashad Evans by split decision.

So Evans by unanimous decision, fair enough.
Maia v Weidman was rubbish, but fair decision in Weidman's favour.
Bisping v Sonnen scoring was a joke. Bisping clearly edged rds 1 and 2. And there's a case 3 was close enough to go either way though more liekly Sonnen won it. Bisping was robbed, and I don't even particularly like him.

Just watched this, was out bushwalking yesterday when it was on.

Bisping was robbed for sure, not the biggest robbery ever but a clear one. Rd 3 wasn't close though, definitely Chael for that one. I scored it 29-28 Bisping. Sonnen didn't fight nearly as well as he has in the past. Perhaps going off the juice has slowed him down. If the same Sonnen fronts Silva in Brazil in the northern summer he's going to be embarrassed.

I really want to see the Maia that embarrassed Sonnen again and not this 3rd rate kickboxer.

I think Davis was given too much too soon in Rashad. Hopefully it won't mess with his head too much because he is a fighter who can go on to great things. Not unusual with the UFC though for promising young fighters to be thrown in the deep end. One of the few things boxing does better than MMA is develop prospects cautiously. BTW I'm a big fan of the body kick catch then sweep that Rashad did 3 times. Broke a mate's ribs with that a couple of years ago.

Forgot to mention regarding the Bisping/Sonnen decision that a good rule of thumb in a close fight is that the fighter the promotion wants to win gets the decision.

yep the catch is straight muaythai, love that
I thought Sonnen did win the 3rd round, but Bisping got a takedown and some effective strikes too so it wasn't a dominant round. Yeash shoudla been 29-28 Bisping.
