Utopia, new channel 4 programme, anybody watch?

Described on the channel 4 website as :

Quote:
The Utopia Experiments is a legendary graphic novel shrouded in mystery. But when a small group of previously unconnected people find themselves in possession of an original manuscript, their lives suddenly and brutally implode.

Targeted swiftly and relentlessly by a murderous organisation known as The Network, the terrified group are left with only one option if they want to survive: they have to run.

I quite enjoyed it, what do others think?

Yeah it has been pretty good. Weirdest thing I find about it though is how despite it depicting quite an emotionally dark world, you get the bright vibrant colours ie. purples and yellows. Think it creates a really eerie atmosphere

Yeah ive seen it been commented that its as if its been shot on instagramme. Now given my status as a 30 something dad who is grossly out of touch with the kids (despite working as a youth worker part time) i don't really know what that means....

Looking forward to episode 3

Really enjoying this show. Episode 3 just as screwed up as the rest of the series...

I see Black Mirror is starting again soon, that was pretty trippy too in the first series

The filming follows the graphic novel approach and is worth watching for that - a bit David Lynch perhaps but with all the commercial breaks not so mood effective, Keeps you on your toes trying to follow/guess the plot direction. Violence is hard but no worse than much else introduced into the regular detective series on the tv now - is that what the young un's want these days? - I've given up on most of these outside a few of the danish/swedish series. It's a must for all those conspiracy theorists out there. There's so much crap on the ever expanding number of tv channels now that we're all grateful for virtually anything even just a bit novel I suppose.

I am gripped, although it's not always an enjoyable experience. For me, a bit like watching a Tottenham game. I do wonder whether a really powerful secret network like that would leave so many corpses lying around. But perhaps they are taking advantage of the fact that there are more 'crazed killers' on the loose these days, what with the decomposition of bourgeois society and all.

Will Gareth Bale dive again or is it just a physical manifestation of his existential crisis? I'd watch that program. The lack of authorities is typical Lynchian/oneironautism probably because it's boring when the cops show up.

Just finished watching episode one of the new season of Black Mirror. Thought it was pretty good. If I may sound a bit pretentious, but quite good storytelling. I won't give away any spoilers, but I think they should have ended it about 1 minute sooner. For my money, though, All Rise For The National Anthem still takes it.

Anyway else get a chance to watch it yet? Whad'ya think?

Making my way through Breaking Bad at the moment as well (NO SPOILERS), but have you ever seen the film A Hole in My Heart? That is some utterly, utterly fucked up shit. By that same Swedish director who did Together, but the most deeply disturbed movie I've ever seen.

Finished season 4 last nite! Fuckin sick. I think our plan is to try and kill some time watching another season between now and July. That way we can pick up season 5 in July and it we'll have time to catch up with some of the episodes when season 6 starts.

We're thinking Treme and maybe City of Men or Angels in America. Anyone have any other suggestions (not Six Feet Under, Sopranos, or the Wire)?

Went with Dexter in the end. Four episodes in, it seems like a good idea badly executed. I mean, some of the acting is just atrocious, properly softcore porn level quality. I'm sure folks on here I have seen the series, does it get better? Is it worth sticking it out?

SPOILERS ALERT

Thought Wilson-Wilson's turn was very primmo-esque! Does anybody reckon there will be another season of Utopia?

Chilli Sauce - thats a good strategy with BB waiting till season 6 is about to start, wish i had thought of that... As for Dexter, i think its ok as long as one realises that its no sopranos or BB.. Am going to download the last season of it now that its finished...Have you checked out boardwalk empire?

Ooh haven't, does it have your reccomendation?

Also, don't know if it was you, but someone reccomended "God Bless America". Just got done watching it. I mean, no real class content, but a really well done film. Worth a watch.

Chilli - id put boardwalk empire in the same league as the sopranos and breaking bad - id say its lower down in the league table but its definately in the premier league...

Didn't want to read this until I had finished Utopia, I really enjoyed it!

Chilli sauce, Dexter is good, but it's a bit of fun, not like The Wire or something.

Thanks for the GBH recommendation, going to try to download that now.

One thing I just watched which was great was season one of House of Cards with Kevin Spacey - which I quickly followed with all seasons of the original British one, which were all very good, I might start a thread about that…

Oh yeah, we're working our way through season 6 of Dexter. Totally watchable shit, but it does have it's really good moment.

Think that Boardwalk Empire is on deck...

I enjoyed the first two seasons of Boardwalk Empire, then it got really boring. Gave up about four episodes into season three because it was just too dull, and didn't give a shit about any of the characters anymore
