The Mars Initiative is a program to establish a colony of at least a thousand people on the planet Mars by the end of this century, with the intention of eventually populating that planet to form a self-governing, self-sufficient nation. Motivation for this program comes not only from desire to extend the human presence into space but also from the decay of Western Civilization and the need to preserve its founding race.

I won't link to it. Y'all know how to google/.

The whole planet cant be one nation, they need irrational reasons to fight, kill each other and have football tournaments once every 4 years.

Hey, I didn't write it! I have a reasonably active imagination but i couldn't come up with that...

Maybe if Mars was just one nation, they could be afforded some sort of special dispensation to compete in some World-Cup qualifying region, mostly likely Oceania, where all the other shit countries are.

It would take the players a year or something to get to Earth for the games. Would hamper their club performances.

Don't go complicating this perfectly valid football group organising system with basic physical limitations.

there is no oceania qualifying region, australia has to play Japan and Qatar etc.

Bare jokes Revol not knowing football

There has always been an Oceania region - the winner, always Australia since I was a kid, plays a final match against an Asian runner-up, recently asia 3rd place. Basically they've never had a guaranteed spot, but do have a distinct qualifying round of matches.
Muppet.

Stop displaying your contempt for my Martian community with these quasi-fascist comments, you earth-supremacist scum.

Yeah its an imagined community, but that makes it REAL, you WASCISTS

Bare joke at Revol is teh wrongs

Football (soccer)
Currently Vanuatu is the only country in Oceania to call football its national sport. In Australia it is the fourth most popular sport.[22]
The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is one of six football (soccer) confederations under the auspices of FIFA, the international governing body of the sport. The OFC is the only confederation without an automatic qualification to the World Cup Finals. Currently the winner of the OFC qualification tournament must play-off against an Asian confederation side to qualify for the World Cup.
Oceania has only been represented at three World Cup Finals — Australia in 1974 plus 2006 and New Zealand in 1982. However, Australia is now no longer a member of the Oceania Football Confederation, having joined the Asian Football Confederation in 2006.

Starting another planet with humans would make the ICCs concept of internationalism look rubbish, they could become the INTERPLANETARY COMMUNIST CURRENT. In fact, they should change their name today - to show how serious they are as a group.

2 July, 2008 - 23:51

yeah yeah what i meant was australia aren't in oceania and as such pretty much means oceania doesn't exist at all, or are you going to tell me there are real countries in oceania other than Australia?

2 July, 2008 - 23:56

Huh? Australia is in Oceania.
They are the first listed country in the Oceania geographical region, they play in the OFC World Cup qualifying region tournament.
Indonesia, NewZealand, Tonga, Fuji, and the rest of them shit Pacific islands are in it. That's why Mars should play in it. To make that region a bit more exciting.

Are you drunk posting? wink

They'd all support Manchester United.

3 July, 2008 - 12:08

Since this is a racist project wouldn't you try to get IFA to ban them? Or at least call for pickets at their games, like South Africa back in the day?

3 July, 2008 - 12:11

I personally won't support any project that ISN'T racist.

Up until and including the last world cup Australia were in the Oceania qualifying group, which they won at a canter every time. Presumably because the standard of this group was considered to be too low, they would always then have to play some unreasonably good side from South America in some sort of winner takes all play-off - I remember them narrowly failing to beat Argentina at least once. They qualified for the 2006 world cup by beating Uruguay on penalties.

The unfairness of this situation has been noticed and they now count as part of Asia for footballing purposes, playing in an Asian group for qualifiying purposes and comteting (not very well unfortunately) in the Asian cup (which Iraq won last year, which was nice).

This Martian colony would probably fit quite nicely into the remaining Oceania group, hopefully they would have their legs broken by big burly pacific islanders who thought they were allowed to do rugby tackles
