What was the last gig you went to?

Submitted by Steven. on 22 March, 2006 - 01:10.

I've just got from Against Me! that I saw with Jack, not listened to any of their stuff in ages but it was a really good gig. And I got punched in the head and face by a punk girl. And in the big queue for the exit all these punks started shouting "punk rock" and tried to start a crush in the corridors. And when a paramedic was trying to get in past the people queuing to leave and had to push through he got all these dirty looks and aggro and people saying "wanker" from more punks. Aren't punks amazing roll eyes

So, what was the last gig you went to, and how was it?

22 March, 2006 - 11:02

John Cale at Manchester Academy. Fucking brilliant!

22 March, 2006 - 11:13

Mobb Deep, Manchester Apollo.

Lots of wannabe ganstas making gun salutations with their fingers, looking tough, gathering in gangs. Massive police presence because some of the rival gangs have been killing eachother lately.

"Good" to see people singing along about guns, money, bitches and not giving a fuck - gives hope eh roll eyes

Mobb deep, musically and lyrically, is pure poetry, but they don't work live. It was shite actually, though i didn't expect them to be any better. They were totally stoned/drunk and the relaxed and mellow MC'ing turned into obscure shouting. Pure rubbish.

Best act of the night was Manchesters Most Wanted, two local MC's from Moss Side singing against bling bling "hands up those who know how it is like to be broke" grin Exellent free styling as well on themes people were shouting from the audience.

(i dont go out much)

Great thing about the Immortal Technique gig I went to a few months ago was that the lines that got the biggest cheers were the political ones, like "They funded Al Qaida / Now they blame the Muslim religion / Even though Bin Laden was a CIA tactician" etc. 8)

yeah, Dead Prez gig was the same in london, people were really into it singing along smile

Paris played in finland two times and both of the times he had a lot of political rants between the songs and the crowd wents nuts over it, very good responce. I missed both of the shows though sad

But Paris is shit though, so you were lucky.

You see Dead Prez at the Shepherd's Bush Empire like a year ago? That was the crappest gig ever angry

22 March, 2006 - 11:40

Emcee lynx at Station 40, in SF.

no, it was about 4 years ago, somewhere in london cant remember the venue - fantastic gig, one of the best i've seen. They had a projector with all kinds of images displayed on the screen of ugly cops, riots, demos etc..

and of course beautiful vegetables for be healthy lol!

Oh yes a good thing was that when he came on stage Cale said he would prefer people not to smoke inside the hall. If they did we would get a shorter set. For once I got home and didn't stink of fags. 8)

against me! on sunday. wetheyouth was meant to be coming, but either i managed to completely miss him cos he's so small, or he didn't, so i stood around on my own like a lemon drinking overpriced grolsch. it was an alright gig actually, very few actual punks to be honest, more the nice friendly general "alternative" types. surely against me! are too melodic for real punkers?

the gig i went to before that was my ruin, which was much better.

22 March, 2006 - 13:42

Not a music gig but I went to Battersea last week for the Stewart Lee, Richard Herring et al night. Was really good. The dudes off Peep Show were very funny.

Stewart Lee was great but set was a bit short. Slagged off the pope and catholics smile

Richard Herring was probably the best of the night though.

Harry Hill was actually really funny too!

Gonna check out Stewart Lee again this weekend, at LSE union.

Been living in london over 6 months, got 3 months left and I've only been to one gig - and it wasn't even in london!!! Walk the Plank/Down and Outs/SSS in Guilford w/ Alan. Good gig.

I making up for it though. Going to Henry Rollins spoken word this friday. Going to Path of Resistance in May, CroMags/Betyayed in May. see what else come up. Wanted to go to Ordinary Boys but it sold out over a month ago, ah well, least I saw them before they started doing Hello magazine covers!

edit - oh yeah I'm going to see Moz again in May too tongue

no, you see Jack is somewhat rational and made the mistaken assumption that you were going as punishment for some ungodly act.

Unfortunately I have been forced to watch Henry Rollins good awful spoken word too many times. cry

They had Henry Rollins as the token man in Bust magazine's last issue. He seemed ok, but a bit self righteous.

Last gig I went to was Klez City at the Spitz on Monday, which had three modern klezmer bands and it fucking kicked arse. I think it's the best kind of music to see live - somehow it seems to get everyone involved, and everyone dances like crazy (not just stupid English bloke dancing on the spot with hands in your pockets) and it's really, really fun. Crazy mix of people from young boho types to aged Jewish intellectual types... I <3 klezmer so much.

22 March, 2006 - 16:01

Red Sparowes 2 weeks ago, supported by Rest.

fuckin great!

Yeah my one before was better - white rose movement with ed+gav - but i'm just more into that sort of music. Yeah this was probably more alternative types than punks, but even the small number of actual punks managed to make prominent arses of themselves.

I saw Feeder last night at Hammersmith Apollo, not one of their best, and the security tried to stop me getting in to see them as my ticket had been folded up angry

22 March, 2006 - 18:43

A local gig with some local bands -

It was pretty good actually, especially a few of us chasing the bonehead member of a band that was supporting my mates down the road afterwards.

come on, they'd be doin ye a favour if they stopped ye going in to see Feeder wink

I was at a U2 tribute band in my local Irish pub on Paddy's Day. (I'm in Tilburg-the Blackburn of the Netherlands). It wasn't bad, although i was very drunk, so maybe it was. Funny because I fucking hate U2. Funnier was the singer and guitarist trying to look like Bono and the Edge. roll eyes

22 March, 2006 - 20:26

Ska band called Goldmaster Allstars, fairly middle of the road stuff, interesting crowd though (as in totally not the sort of people you'd usually expect).

22 March, 2006 - 20:29

Last gig was The Academy Is.., The Junior Varisity and Panic! At The Disco. It was a pretty shit show to be honest, I was surrounded by nu-indie kids and girl trousers on boys. P!ATD was pretty crap live, much better studio band but TJV put on a jolly show though the audience were far too stupid to appcreaite good, honest pop-punk.

Hopefully gonna see a ska band, The Planet Smashers on the 30th bumbumbumbumbumbum grin

22 March, 2006 - 20:34

Feeder have some good songs, but seeing them 7 times does start to wear thin.... although the drummer is very good.

22 March, 2006 - 20:37

Go Team couple of weeks ago with my 17 year old son who has just about recovered from watching me throw myself around at a Sick of it All gig a few years ago (hardcore punk).

22 March, 2006 - 21:06

Go Team are a good band, missed them in Camden though, but good live.

Is that a joke? Don't get me wrong I like them but they can't play live for shit!

No shit sherlock!

much better studio band

?

They're just a shiter version of the already shite Postal Service.

Hey - nothing wrong with girl's trousers on boys. My housemate gave me her trousers. Not worn them yet, but I will do...

23 March, 2006 - 01:10

john Panic! At The disco sound nothing like the Postal Service you twat!

And anyone who likes Feeder should be killed in the fucking face!
