The tips - which Neuman says are 'dedicated to helping wives' - include: always forgiving him; giving him sex on demand; lavishing praise on him for providing for the family, even if earning more than him; rarely letting him out on his own with friends or work colleagues; and taking an interest in his hobbies.

Wha?

'If a husband has already cheated, his wife's role is to recognise that she needs to change,' added Neuman

wha fuck?

'This is an appalling book,' said Susan Quilliam, a relationship psychologist and author. 'It's more like dog-training a man than being in an honest, successful, adult relationship with him.

Right. Just get him fucking neutered, end of problem.

I don't see what's wrong with any of these. I think if a man has an affair it could be partly his wife's fault for being a nob to him.

Just realised this is in libcommunity.

Quiet you beastly harridans! etc.

I'm reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall at the moment and I keep thinking "Fuck up Helen, you need to learn how to speak to your husband more respectfully". But I suppose that wouldn't have made a very good book. It is a very good book.

Apart from the religious guff, Jane Eyre is brilliant.

Is one of his other kids a ginger? If so you can see why he was trying to create a new utopian genetically experimental future in the basement.

fuck up dee, all the priests in it are portrayed as cunts.

The only thing I don't like about Jane Eyre is when they go shopping and she doesn't want any fancy dresses roll eyes And I can't remember exactly what happens in the book, but in the recent tv series (on iplayer now) Rochester offers to take Jane away from his mad wife to live in sin together. She obviously should have taken him up on that, instead of waiting for him to be crippled! wall

The crippled stuff is religious guff and so is Jane's religiosity.
And the fact that she's an annoying twat, I was hoping her little friend would give her consumption.

I did start reading Villette after a long discussion with someone from work. It was better than Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights but I still got bored and didn't finish it (very unusual for me A Tale of two cities and Pamela are the only other ones I can think of and the first was when I was about 10). I might give it another go at some point. I do mean to reread the brontes but I run the risk of them still being shit.

edit: and I'm still reading that crappy Margaret Attwood book, although it is definitely improving. It's either Jossy's Giants or the one about the cat detective next. Or a book about teaching theory seeing as how I've done no preparation at all for the stupid pgce.
