Did anyone other than the AF work for the WBC this year? The conditions were shit. We're looking to put forward a complaint. Feedback from others would be useful.

Some comrades from SolFed worked for them a few years back to raise funds for Direct Action. They reported the same. It seems they were given all the shittiest shifts to do. They recommended that it be avoided in future.

We've got no gripes about the shifts, nor the bar - we saw all the acts on the main stage cool. It was the working conditions and hourse that were the problem - and the appallingly shit food they supplied - they expected vegetarians to go three days without protein - and told one of our veggies that she couldn't have the bean stew cos that was for vegans - even tho the veggie food was vegan anyway, just without protein.

You work 6 hours with one break. In London they hired agency workers from Reeds and paid them less than the volunteers - £5.35 to our £5.90 and made them work longer.

Left-wing capitalists - the worst of the lot. They opened a yuppie pub in Clapham a few years ago, so I hear. They are the living truth of the old song about "the man who waters the workers' beer".

hehe, that reminds me of a house near where i was brought up called 'drythrottle' because when it was built the owner didn't give the workers any beer to celebrate so they burnt it down grin

what's worst about the WBC pub is that it sullies the good name of the illustrious IWW mag also called Bread & Roses angry

If you've worked it, you know there are ways and means of claiming your bit back...

Or is everything nailed shut know?

I'll agree on the shitty shifts front, depends whether you wanna get into a do, and get fuck faced with your mates for free. You could always do overtime at work and donate it, to whereever.
I know there's a poster on here, who's been working festys this summer for free, just to get in to do's.
It's down to personal choice/situation, i spose.

It's not about personal choice. It's about exploitation and workers' rights.

Worked for WBC at Oxegen this year, a farcical organisation in deed. Most of the volunteers were from Labour Youth and Concern, I wonder does that have anything to do with the fact that the two main people in Ireland are members of both respective organisations.

i work for workers beer and clause IV the collective that build, stock and maintain the bars, if you are working in a paid 'fulltime' roll it is alright, clause IV in particular treat you well, everyone gets paid the same from the gaffer to the kid on his first day, you also get your travel paid for, free food, free accomadation, and as much free booze as you can consume - the hourly rate is not bad either - i can live for three months on six weeks pay very comfortably

i'd never be a server though, fuck that...

Hi knightrose, my qoute was in reference to the getting into do's for free or doing overtime at work.

Not about whether you should organise or not.

Not a bad pub... Couple of years ago bar staff were paid 6.90£ an hour + dinner + taxi home.

Which didnt sound too bad to me.
