Today's talking points:

-Harry Kewell - is he in the pay of Brazil?

-Are South Korea's fans better entertainment than their team (well yes, if you're Rattail, but everyone else...)?

-Should Peter Crouch be knighted or merely given an OBE?

-Is "Wazza, Don't Do a Gazza" the best tabloid headline of all time?

etc.

Peter Crouch needs to be given some of Ronaldo's pies.

What the hell is wrong with Italy?

What happened to S & M? They looked excellent against Holland.

Anyone else think Argentina Holland could be a fantastic game.

Italy are complacent and incapable of playing as a team. They're possibly the side I've seen the least of in this tournament (second to Sweden), but that's the impression I got watching them. And for some reason, Del Piero's on the bench.

S&M were unable to get a foothold against Argentina, mostly for reasons beyond their control (ie Argentine being devastating). However, Mick McCarthy commented before the game that according to a Serbian journalist, nobody in the team or the Serbian press or the entire of Serbia and Montenegro believed they could win. Psycological once more. Oh, and that and the fact that their frontman is Savo fucking Milosevic. They didn't look excellent against Holland, they looked pretty ragged to be honest.

Argie-Holland should be a good 'un, but I think Argentina will run out comfortable winners. Too many of Holland's key players tend to drift in and out of games (eg van Nistelrooj, van Persie, Robben etc). Plus it's hardly like they can afford to keep the likes of Messi on the bench.

What of France-South Korea then?

They looked good against Ghana.

I thougth they lookd good against Holland, missed the argentina game. I'm going to see Holland-Argentina at ULU on the big screen I think.

Didn't see it.

I've only watched about 5 or 6 games

France-South Korea: Henry scored 10 minutes in. Vieira then headed the ball over the line but the keeper bundled it out and it wasn't allowed. France then dominated and had a myriad chances and Korea were awful and didn't even manage a shot on goal until about 10 minutes from the end when they managed to scramble the ball into the net. Henry then ran up the other end and missed another sitter. It finished 1-1 when France should have won 3-1 or 4-1.

I am no longer king of anarchist fantasy football. I've lost top spot on libcom and TTG leagues.

bloody Milito, I knew I should have picked Burdisso. Why did I go with the bloody pundits and not champ manager? angry

Weren't they good though!

I'm quite exited, and now we only need a draw against Croatia to qualify (assuming Japan don't thrash Brazil), after which we'll prob be up against Italy, who didn't look too special the other day. Looks like out of my two teams Australia might end up doing better than England confused

And I'm still firing my way up the libcom league - I'll be snapping at the leaders' heels by the end of the next round, just you watch.....

Oh man I dropped Gerrard from fantasy football because he wasn't supposed to play. He was my captain too!

And then I didn't pick Cole even though I'd planned it because the fantasy football interface is rubbish.

That said, hopefully Ferdinand is injured, protecting England from his stupidity.

Now if Terry magically turns into Ledley King we might have a decent defence.

Not really...Terry's in my fantasy team. angry He's a fucking great defender though, kicks the shit out of Ledley twatting King. And how good was Sol as a sub?

Good first half performance, despite losing Owen and Ferdinand. We seemed to get rattled by those corners and high balls into the box. Jeez, we almost blew it on about 5 different occasions. Thank fuck for Stevie G eh?

Dev's right about the strikers - why the fuck is Defoe watching it on the telly? I'm with Southgate though...we should play 4-5-1 like we were at the end, or more like 4-1-4-1, with Hargreaves in front of the defence and Lampard and Gerrard concentrating on linking up with Rooney (and Crouch playing supersub goal-getter as and when necessary).

Why oh why did I put Figo in my fantasy football instead of Cole. I'd thought about Cole, but then I was tricked by the bloody metro and its stupid selection system

I'm very nicely surprised to see you again Joseph K.

I took some pleasure in seeing the first equaliser, I'm not liking England much these days.

thank you jef wink

i´m not back yet but the world of wage labour is looming.

i´ve finally found a use for nietzsche - england have ressentiment par excellance, they do just enough whether they´re playing trinidad or argentina, its soo unfair we´re so hard done-by etc etc. And its hot - its always bloody hot, the world cup´s always in the summer angry grin

am i allowed to discuss betting?

i put an occasional flutter on sports, mainly cricket, but i don't know much about football. who do you think are nice money earners?

i've put a bet on portugal to win the cup, seems to be a good outside runner. offering 18 to 1. but they will need to knock out i think (most likely opponents) holland (2nd round) and brazil (qf) and then spain or england in the semis to get thru into the final, seems quite unlikely. silly me.

the england game really pissed me off, watching joe cole give everything for 90 minutes without any support, bar the odd ashley cole run forward. joe cole was holding the entire team together. wtf was happening on the right hand side?! there was no attacking from the right at all, dare i say we were missing neville and his frequent runs forward? i cant for the life of me see why sven didnt bring on lennon, surely he's proven himself as a decent enough winger, and having him on for the final 20 minutes could have really upped the tempo, increased our possesion, and made swedens equaliser lesss likely. angry

We're doomed without Owen, because Rooney isn't fit and Crouch is shite.

Not good news today.

I still vote 4-1-4-1...with Crouch coming on when Rooney gets tired, or if we're trailing.

And Erikson's a crap manager. Why didn't he use Rooney in the second half instead of starting with him? Why did he take Theo Walcott if he's never going to play him? Why is he paid so much money? confused
