actually there is a pretty cool science demo you can probably do
I've seen the demo done on videos - put if you insert electrodes at either end and pass current through it you'll probably get it to glow bright red, seriously - I've seen it done with an aubergine

I'd try it and report back but you can't buy yams in Belfast wink
