anyone else check this today?

I hadn't planned to go but was going for a swim at ulu and then heading to meet a friend from home and happened to dander past the square, saw a class war poster in the windee and thought I'd have a look. stayed about 5 mins, bought conquest of bread then split, too many crusties wink

seemed alright though

I never really saw the point of zines... people seem to put a lot of effort into them tho.

Surely putting all that effort into them is the point though? Creating something for it's own sake, about something you feel passionate about grin Even the shit zines are kinda cool because somebody went to the trouble of making it.

I've never been a zine geek but I did used to enjoy reading them, kinda fell out of the loop last year or two though.

I guess i have never seen one i like. They all seem to be about really odd stuff which i couldnt give two shits about. And abot crapy music wink

Like they appeal to only certain very specific groups of people. Which is fair enough, but im none of those groups sad

well I wouldn't go that far, but you have to remember that tech geeks have a hopelessly materialistic utilitarianism to them. They can't understand anything that can't be justified with an efficiency piechart. tongue

I have to admit I bought Maximum Rock n Roll on Tuesday. Fuckin sue me. Punk zines can be pretty cool if they know what they're on about. Right now MRR has a huge chip on its shoulder about "punks using Murdoch's Myspace", which I'm assuming means noone at the MRR HQ has ever watched The Simpsons...

Murder Contest was the best British hardcore punk zine I ever read. Stayed well the fuck away from politics, which I dug.

See thats why i dont like the word zine! Its stupid, Morgenmuffel is blatantly a cartoon - theres no need to add a weird subculutre onto it tongue tongue tongue

The the term 'zine' just means "a small circulation, non-commercial publication of original or appropriated texts and images. More broadly, the term encompasses any self-published work of minority interest" (thanks wikipedia) - it covers a huge range of stuff, music, poetry, cartoons, politics, creative writing, photos etc etc. Morgenmuffel is just as much a zine as those ones about the kind of bad music Alan likes.

Anyway, I wasn't trashing your taste, I meant 'bad' as in ill, sick, wicked...

Yeah morgenmuffel's a zine. And its deadly. There are loads of zines that are mainly cartoons.

I found tons of old zines, swappie literature, anarchist publications and papers in our cupboard belonging to 'barry', but they're mostly awful excpt for the black flags. Some of them were amusing though highlights being a free stonehenge poster and an entire page long article dedicated to the ''herstory'' conunudrum.

Could I borrow them to OCR any ones that fall outside the period martinh has for the library?

Probably at some point, i'm going through the cupboard again in a week to sort my stuff out so i will have a look and see whats here. You could ask barry aswell since i have no idea whether he even knows they're still here.
