Gotta love those Brighton binmen. admin - frivolity removed

With one exception the comments on that Argus article are surprisingly in favour.

Just went down to the depot this morning, they're still out. It was a nice feeling walking up Lewes Road and seeing bin bags out on the street on my way to see them.. felt like a good omen smile Anyway, spirits were looking pretty high, did a little interview with one of the staff and will try to write some stuff up asap. While I was there the guy I spoke to told me they'd just decided to ballot for the strike to go official, we'll see how it goes..

Would be interesting to know if there's any continuity in staff between now and 2001.

Nah, in 2001 they were salt of the earth, heroes of the revolution etc, nowadays they're all petit-bourgeois counter-revolutionaries. Enough talk, here's a gun, across the ice you go comrade.

Wait, what were we talking about again?

Well, its the same depot as in 2001 and when I was talking to one of the staff down there about the 2001 stuff he talked about it as if he'd been involved and a lot of the guys down there seemed old enough to have been involved. I definitely got that feeling that its a lot of the same people (though there were a lot of younger staff there too) but I'll ask the next time I go down there..

BB: Yeah, I found it! Dunno why I had so much trouble with the directions, my mate lives on the same road! smile

More from the Argus. edit: and another.

GMB already in to tell them to get back to work. Looks like it could go on for a while.

Victory!

Just got a call now from one of the staff down there and they've told me that management have backed down completely, allowed workers back to their old crews and started talks on staffing levels and vehicles..

grin

Oh, and I asked about cross-over with the 2001 strike and he said its probably about 30% the same as back then..

Is it true that the whole of Brigthon is a mile wide and there's only one postcode? That's what this one guy told me.
