Yay! These are more common than you would think at Canada Post, they also tend to even make some of the 'radicals' in the leadership of the union rather nervous. We had a partial one that lasted about 20 minutes at our depot a few months back. This one is especially important though cause the strike vote is coming up and most of Canada's population is in Ontario, if this militancy picks up they could drag the rest of Canada into a strike the leadership of the union has been campaigning against. Still though its hardly the good ol days of CUPW under JC Perrot.

An email I got today over a list for networking to vote against the upcoming contract ratification.

Sisters and Brothers:

Downsview Station A walked off the floor today over the letter carrier work load and the restructure problems which were implemented 2 months ago. The walk out lasted from 7-9 a.m. The carriers demanded that something be done to fix the faulty restructuring and alleviate their heavy work load.

The Local went in to negotiate the workers back to work protocol. We made sure that there was no discipline and the workers demands were met. The following is what was achieved:

1) Management to start fixing the problems with points of call not listed on the letter carrier case and time values on the 038's.

2) Proper equipment to be provided to the letter carriers to move their mail.

3) Article 50's to be immediately conducted on all routes that require them.

4) Management to provide a supervisor and a Union observer to deal with the problems with the restructure in the station today.

5) All letter carriers to be paid for any lost values back to the first day of implementation.

6) No discipline.

As a result the letter carriers were satisfied with the agreement and went back to work 2 hours later. The Local was buzzing with calls from other locations who wanted to walk off in support. However the membership and the Local were satisfied that the memberships concerns would be dealt with.

In Solidarity
