Cho Seung-Hiu... Physcopath or victim of Capitalism?
Both.
The world has been blitzed with suppositions about some kid in his high school taking out 32 students and teachers before finally taking out himself, a bloody rampage with two glocks in each hand... and a video camera behind the scenes. The media end every sentence with "Chilling, Physcopathic, Insane...." but before you question who's shooting what at you, you gotta duck out of the line of fire and question why. That very question is asked in the movie oldboy, a fucking peice of film is ever there has been, it beats Kill Bill all to hell and Tarantino admits that.
What I am isn't important. WHY is important. Oldboy, 2003
In case you haven't seen the film, and missed all the references that have been played out in the media, Cho Seung-Hui; the killer in question, set about making his publicity photos to be a carbon copy of those in Oldboy; posing with a claw hammer most famously.
So movie trivia aside, why did this kid massacre 32 people? Was it hate, jealousy... did he just snap? Well, it was clearly very premeditated and planned out, the stack of homevideos and photos show this, so that rules out a "moment of madness". It sounds more to be a long build up of hate, against his first victim, a college woman he'd been stalking and then- realising she'd never take him, he broke down.
Seung-Hui was a poor South Korean kid, who moved to the US with his family in search of a "better life" he didn't find it. Somehow lost in the heart of capitalism and twisted by the urges to have women, expensive things to fit in... but he found he couldn't obtain either one of these, and it drove him insane, leading to the deaths of 32 people, innocent yes, but who can claim to be entirely blameless in such a situation? Cho went into counselling on the advice of his teachers, having written some disturbing literature, but this didn't help him. In fact, that was particularly prodded by the media, failing to realise that statistically some 60% of adults in the US have at somepoint gone into counselling, either for a single session, or a more prolonged visit. Thats chilling isn't it? By that stat over 60% of the population of the United States of America are potential serial killers.
Why did he do it? Well, WHY is important. Examine the background, the footprints, what led him into the situation, what turned him into a murderer... poverty, envy, disillusionment. We all feel that at some point, but it was the way in which he planned it that was most interesting; like it was a movie, as if he would become famous afterwards... infamous in a way, and presumably inspiring the shooting the next day on the other side of the country, and the three or four hoaxes that happened soon afterwards, it speaks volumes about the nature of a society driven by the images on the bigscreen, all wanting to fit in, all wanting to be John Wayne, none of them ever obtaining their dream of fame and wealth, all of them bitterly disappointed with no where to turn.
The point of a leading role, is just that, that character gets the glory and the pretty girl. But that's in short supply these days. Think on that comrades, a tradegy yes, but none of it should be ignored.
I vote psychopath.
tagline!
thats my tag now beatch.

Tarantino admits Kill Bill is simply a pastiche of other people's work anyway, as are most of his films. Honey I Shrunk the Kids pisses on everything that silly prick ever made except true romance .

Er, I don't think that's how counselling works.
i think he was getting at the media playing up 'he had counselling' as if that was an obvious sign he was about to go postal

man i've been making that one since i was at primary school and on a trip the teacher said 'watch out for the cycle path' and we pissed ourselves. must try harder.
alright then.
have abit of this motherfucker:
a cautionary tale for all tag-based newswires "south korea" + "shooting"
The kid did mention in his final words that he was targeting the rich kids of the campus because they had everything they ever wanted and still could'nt get enough.

still, randomly shooting rich kids is fucking pointless, stupid and horrific, even assuming cho had correctly assessed each of his victims' financial status and psychological profile. cho may well be a victim too to some extent, but we shouldn't excuse his actions

1) he was at that college
2) the kids aren't rich kids, v-tech is consicered a 'blue collar' kind of place. There are a millipon better places to pop off rich kids.
3) its not really a rant against the rich is a stupid cobbled together misanthropic ramble; listen to the shit, this 'you had it all but it just wasn't enough' crap has been being said by various nutters for fcuking centuries, nit least by various religions.
4) i haven't seen any evidence that he targetted specific kids on the campus.
Can we have one of those fake Class War stickers based around this issue posted up soon.
Thanks.
Oh god please no ffs.
V-Tech was coined as "blue collar" by one of the students, but aside from that soundbite, coming from the slums of South Korea any dive in America would be considered rich and luxurious, it just shows the growing divisions of inequality between countries.
Cho moved to the US when he was 8 you know, he wasn't a fresh faced migrant who just stepped off the banana boat, he grew up in Americas culture.
he grew up in Americas culture
to the last

unless you are quoting someone, the second half contradicts the first half.
Besides, even if he was targeting unhappy rich kids, it would have been an incorrect class analysis.
...really? D'you reckon?
Clearly you missed my irony. No worries, perhaps Oliver Twist can explain it to you.

mergh not really.
As a child he was raised in abject poverty, as a young adult he grew up with his personality being warped by the "culture" around him.
contradicts
Still, thanks for the pointer, i'll make sure not to use such a silly mistake again, it just embarrases myself, doesn't it sweetheart?
