CNLA(Cornwall National Liberation Army) threaten to firebomb celebrity chefs
it appears not

Now THAT'S funny!

I hope Brown recuperates ice picks.
I like Rick Stein too. Mostly because of his dog, Chalky. He's not a patch on Keith Floyd though.
Keith Floyd is loved by left communists for his subtle critique of the decadence of late capitalism, what else could he have been trying to say by getting pished and cocking chickens surrounded by 40 bulbs of garlic?
Stein's bought up so much property in Padstow, (pubs, restaurants etc) the locals call it Padstein. Cornwall is really gentrified by twats like him who think they're doing everyone a favour by bringing their wealth and culture to the natives. The nationalist grouplet are hoping to feed off the resentment of locals suffering some of the highest property prices and lowest wages in the country.
Evidently the chefs customers will be considered legitimate targets in a campaign to remove "the imperialist English flag of St. George" from Cornwall.
That's funny - you quite often see flags flying in people's gardens in Cornwall in various combinations - the Cornish flag (white cross on black) is often alongside the Union Jack and or/the St George. Competing nationalisms - I remember seeing some BNP graffiti in Glasgow a few years ago - someone had written over it 'Go home English scum'.

Yeah, it's worth bearing in mind that the grievances of a lot of these mental nationalist groups are genuine, even if their ideas and the solutions they propose are balls.

That would take a pretty active imagination on my behalf which i will take as a compliment - i think!
Dim's link also mentioned the Welsh nationalist fire connection which is what i thought of when i heard all this - evidently one of the Cornish would-be activists was one of the Welsh arsonists...so what is s/he?? Welsh or Cornish? Sounds like an identity crisis to me...or a chance to start some pretty fires perhaps??
Ret's right tho - gentrification down there has of course greatly increased the gap between rich or poor so no wonder peeps are disgruntled..
Tho tbh i am not a big fan of hugely insular mindsets - all a bit too Harvest Home for me..
Ha! So good i had a chance to post this item first as it surfaced last week and this is the first chance i have had to start the thread...

Hello peeps
It sounds as if not all Cornish inhabitants have been thrilled at the presence of Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver, who have both opened restaurants in Cornwall recently. For the first time in 20 years the somewhat obscure Cornwall National Liberation Army have re-emerged with threats to firebomb the celebrities, their restaurants and customers, sending a batch of emails to local businesses and newspapers warning of their intent.
Evidently the chefs customers will be considered legitimate targets in a campaign to remove "the imperialist English flag of St. George" from Cornwall. The group claim substantial funding from the US and want Cornwall to be granted independence from the UK based on historic evidence that it is not a county but a separate province.
The group does have a history of extemist action evidently though its last physical attacks were back in the 80's when a bomb was planted in a courthouse in St. Austell.
Evidently its email signed by the CNLA Directing Council (sent via an Arabic web-hosting service based in Egypt) says Stein is "top of its operational directives". He has angered them by saying some locals have refused to appreciate the "rosy glow" of publicity he bought to Cornwall. The email goes on to say "We feel that the time must now be here for Stein to feel the "rosy glow" of a real fire and so we declare his businesses, him and his clients and their transport a bone fide target". Of Oliver: "We have seen the effects of this arrogant Englishman in our Country, causing property prices to swell".
Sounds to me like the "CNLA" is prolly just one or two disgruntled types..umm given that i haven't heard of them before or anything...It DOES remind me tho of the action taken by certain disgruntled Welsh peeps at the invasion of wealthy English peeps buying holiday homes there thus inflating property prices."Come home to a real fire..." I believe the Welsh tourism slogan at the time was and they subverted this and carried out some arson attacks iirc...
Er.. obv i hope noone is hurt but I have been quite amused by all this lol
cos there is not much to shake the equilibrium enjoyed by the very successful lets face it...and this whole CNLA thing is quite interesting/ obscure...I mean i was tempted to post this in libcommunity and make jokes about pasties used as weapons and clotted cream bombs and stuff but thought i would stick it here.. the province of Cornwall huh...hmm...
What do you think peeps??...
