CNT strike at mercadona (Barcelona)

Criminalized by the government the strike from Mercadona when preventing the military Police to inform the workers
This Saturday they attacked violently against the strikers while CNT requests explanations to the Government’s delegation. The strike of Mercadona becomes from today in indefinite.
Until forty military Policemen urged by the government they guard the doors of Mercadona daily for not allowing the workers of the strike to inform. The policemen, paid by the government, are inside and outside of the logistical center with orders of not allowing to inform the workers in strike to the employees. This Saturday they loaded against several strikers without having hurt of graveness.
CNT has presented in writing today before the Government’s delegation in Catalonia a requirement, so that he explains the reasons for those which the workers of Mercadona, in a legitimate strike, they cannot exercise its rights of informing to the rest of employees. On Saturday there were even pushes and aggressions without graveness toward the strikers, only some moratones taken place by the clubs of the agents.
The agents, coordinated with the private security of Mercadona, are to newspaper in the dependences of the logistical center of the company in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia (Barcelona), for that that neither the union like the workers cannot exercise their right freely to the strike, as well as to veil the good course of the unemployments has more than enough workers’ suplantación in strike for others of other places, security and the fundamental rights of strike.
The workers also decided unanimously yesterday to continue the strike indefinitely. However, and given the drop incidence of the unemployments for the performances of the private surveillance as public, as well as the suplantación of strikers for other strange workers, the union CNT senses that the litigation will lengthen, in such a way that the strikers will show for the streets of Barcelona to denounce before the public opinion “the injustices that Mercadona makes against their employees.”
Also CNT notices to Mercadona “that won’t be able to persist a lifetime” in that attitude of vulneraciones of fundamental rights because he notices the union that they are “lesions of rights picked up in the Spanish constitution and in the Statute of the Workers, for what will have to respond of a side or another for these practices.”
Reasons of the strike
Measures of security, three union delegates’ readmission, one of them grateful as unfounded for the own company, and the ceasing of labor pursuit are the reasons of the strike. Up to now and due to the practices of the company in not allowing to pass anybody, CNT affirms that the incidence is low, without knowing an exact fact of the repercussion of the unemployments.

It is probably the biggest supermarket here in Spain, employes more than 54.000 workers...
The strike goes on, on Saturday 8 will be a demostration at Barcelona.

It´s a strike at the Distribution Centre of Catalonia, with almost 700 workers.
The number of CNT members, I prefer don´t tell you... you never know who is reading... 
CNT has fronted this company in more shops of all Spain, its politics are centred in low prices, based on low labour rights...

20TH DAY OF STRIKE AT THE LOGISTIC CENTRE OF MERCADONA IN SAN SADURNÍ (BARCELONA)
Daily manifestations are summoned by the center of Barcelona to denounce the labour and union repression that the workers of the logistical center of this company in “Sant Sadurní” suffer, as well as to demand the readmission of three workers fired as reprisal by their union work.
This noon, around 30 people have marched in a demostration from “Passeig de Gràcia”, for the Diagonal until Catalonia Square. The strikers had finished another mobilization, will be more this month of April in the streets of Barcelona, whose balance is positive, according to sources of the strike committee. They are growing the samples of solidarity among the population, that request information and pamphlets, as well as some wayfarers adhere spontaneously to the marches. Cutting of streets have been made in Gran Vía-Passeig de Gràcia and all the parallel streets to Aragon to get the attention on the continue strike that they maintain since 20 days ago. In next days, it will be continued by demostrations, pickets and informative acts in front of the stores of Mercadona.

Another new about the strike:
Act of solidarity in the logistical center of Mercadona in Valencia
On Monday April 10 in act of solidarity, a group of comrades from CNT-Sagunto and CNT-La Plana went to the logistical center of Mercadona in Valencia. The objective was to inform the workers that its partners from Barcelona are in continued Strike for the readmission of fired workers and for the stopping of the pursuit from the company.
With this type of propagandistic acts we look for to give diffusion to the conflict and the fight that is happening in Barcelona, to shake insofar as possible to try to extend the conflict, and to show that it exists and it is effective the solidarity among the oppressed ones without any hierarchy type.
These acts of solidarity, don't like the bosses of Mercadona that made appear to one nurtured private security presence to prevent that one could enter to the center at all and wanting to impede by all possible means that we distributed the pamphlets in the shift change: they couldn´t avoid it any way. But Mercadona only was not satisfied with physical measures of force; he threatened the workers, putting them on "black lists" if they caught our pamphlets or they were related with us. In spite of everything this, the most of the workers were interested in the conflict in Barcelona and we exchange information with them and no threat type could impede it.
We know that this strike is harming a lot to Mercadona; they are displacing workers from the stores and people of the logistical center of Alacant to the logistical center of Valencia, because from Valencia they have transferred a lot of workers to the center in strike to supplant our comrades. A decrease has been noticed in the personnel of the shift of night. Comrades from Barcelona: Go ahead, we are in the good road!!. Mercadona becomes more and more nervous.

23th day of strike
Workers of Mercadona have marched today by fourth time in this week
Tomorrow another demostration, the fifth in this week, will begin in the University Square at 12:00.
Today, at eleven in the morning, the manifestation began in the Juan Carlos I Square, with an attendance of a thirty of people, among workers and family. The workers of the logistical center of Mercadona in "Sant Sadurní D'Anoia", (Barcelona) are in continued strike since the 23th of March.
Workers in strike and relatives have carried out the fourth manifestation in Barcelona, this left from the Juan Carlos I Square, continued by Paseo de Gracia and concluded in Catalonia Square, where they gave a turn around.
The CNT consider that the manifestation has been welcomen among people that went for a walk, because they request more information and they expressed their support and sympathy for the fair demands of the workers of Mercadona in strike.
Tomorrow, for fifth time at this week, they will march at twelve in the noon from University Square, and they will go by Pelayo, Fontanella, Vía Laietana and will finish in the Sant Jaume Square at three in the afternoon. In this occasion, militants of CNT in Catalonia will come to support the strikers and their families.
Equally they have foreseen other mobilizations and informative acts to expose the reasons of the strike, among them the dismissal of three comrades, pressures at labor, union persecution, lack of measures of security and hygiene at work and time of lunch unpaid.

I doubt that there are. The supermarket sector in the UK is pretty strong and if anything the UK-based companies are moving into the rest of Europe. The exceptions are, AFAIK, Asda-Walmart, Aldi, Lidl and Spar. I don't think any other foreign chain has a presence here. A quick google of Mercadona reveals that they have a wide presence in Spain, but not anywhere else.

Revol, what did you expect? Spar's a franchise based in Amsterdam. Woolworth's is actually British (was owned by Kingfisher, not sure who owns it now). Like Safeway the brand has split between different countries. In Oz they're a supermarket chain (and SA as well I think)

Hi Manu, hope you're still on libcom.
I've just tried to send some money (from the UK) and was told that as well as the IBAN number I also needed:-
1) The 'Swift address' (whatever that is)
2) The bank name (is this 'La Caixa'?)

About the strike... there are more than 50 days. The Catalonian Guvernment has forbidden the demostrations and the bullies from Mercadona and the police threaten our comrades. But the aim of the strikers is strong.
It could be good a note of SF (other organisations could too, of course) to the Catalonian Government (Generalitat) protesting by forbid the demostrations.
