Detroit teachers' strike and school boycotts

Wayne-Westland Community Schools reopened Friday after a four-day teacher strike, but some high school students boycotted classes and there were questions about whether some parents were holding children home in support of teachers.

"I totally support the teachers, 100%," said Dawn Drake of Wayne. Her daughter, Brianna, 8, said there were only 12 students in her third-grade classroom Friday, instead of the usual 20 or more.

Student protesters at local high schools also said they were boycotting classes in support of the teachers.
