Randy Lowens has been honored with the Tacenda Literary Award, for the Best Short Story of 2007 that illuminates social injustice.

The winning story may be perused at http://www.jmww.150m.com/Lowens.html

The award announcement may be found at http://www.willotrees.com/

In a previous discussion, the pros and cons of political poetry was discussed. Any thoughts on the role of other literary arts in the efforts of communists?

I actually find art that is overtly political rather offputting, and so was somewhat taken aback by the nature of this award!

Eh?? What are you talking about? I didn't post anything at all on that thread unless you meant my absence was a hindrance ... wink

What i meant was BITD i pmed wills wilde and we agreed it would be a good idea to have a poetry thread and he agreed and i think started one at that time - tho i don't think i contributed much on that one either but i felt it important to advocate for it and that people should feel free to discuss cultural stuff on here and be encouraged to do so ..which is less likely to happen since the end of the Culture forum.

One of the things that puts people off doing this is that people like your good self who have an interest in and academic knowledge of the field can be discouraging and negative when it comes to other peoples output in your area of expertise which i consider ill-mannered as i would not do this to someone who wasn't showing an understanding of my area of expertise which - trust me - happens a lot.

Of course you could just be joking and know i didn't post anything on that thread and that you were making a nihilist joke of sorts - if so that is cool. My above comments would still apply tho - you can be well precious at times Jef.

There once was a poster named Randy
At writing he was rather handy
but for all of his tricks
he found limericks
made his vagina too sandy.

There was a gent named Costello,
Reputed to be a nice fellow.
But when writing in rhyme,
Without fail, his last line
Was nonsense (albeit mellow).

I'm sure if I had your CV

I was having a lark

you really should watch some more tv.

All week long, I create fine art and communist propaganda. Then on the weekends, me and the boys grab a couple of cases and our 22 rifles, drive to the landfill, set up plastic chairs in the bed of my truck, and take target practice at the bigger rats. With a life like that, who needs television?

Besides, what about the children in the house?

over the meals for the tables he waits

don't give him a slap
he just gets turned on by the plates

My visiting stepdaughter just asked what I was guffawing about. That was really hard to explain. "Well, you see, these communists overseas are writing poetry, and..."

There once was guy called new yawka
and he was a really smooth talker
he said hey there sweetie
now I'm called petey
and then he proceeded to pork her.

Is Randy still about? I quite like his stories, although it'd be nice if everyone wasn't an alcoholic or meth head smile
