WORKERS at a car components plant which supplies the neighbouring Jaguar Land Rover factory have walked out in lightning strike action for the second day running.About 100 production staff at International Automotive Components (IAC), at Speke’s Boulevard Industry Park, staged unofficial action yesterday morning in a row over redundancies and terms and conditions.
The walkout followed talks during the past fortnight between bosses of the US-owned plant and officials from Unite the Union.
IAC supplies plastic dashboard gear for the JLR plant on a “just in time” basis.
An insider at the car factory said production lines were 20 minutes away from shutting down yesterday due to a shortage of components.
But a deal was struck and IAC staff returned to work to ensure production at JLR was unaffected.
But workers at the components site claimed today bosses had let them down on assurances given yesterday and they decided to down tools again this morning.
JLR spokeswoman Lucy Reynolds said: “It is not stopping us at the moment.
“It depends on the number of cars we build on each day, but we will have to see how the action unfolds in the coming hours.”
No-one was available for comment from either IAC or Unite.
