This was relatively successful and low maintenance in the few hours I was there, even though we had to face down a local commander with a history of attacking protestors (PL65 in case anyone's interested). After the borough's Library Services manager refused to let his staff leave for an hour or two, a confrontation seemed worryingly probable but it was eventually defused when the Council managed to hire private security. The staff were able to leave and the motley crue of managers eventually agreed to leave, allowing occupiers to eat, tell stories and play board games.
The occupiers agreed to leave today at 12 noon, having garnered a fair amount of media exposure, which appeared to be the priority of the action in the first place. Personally, I don't think it should be the task of radicals to dictate fiscal policy (vis a vis the quotes in the above article), but whatever. With further council cuts expected and a Carnival Against Cuts on the 19th, it promises to be a busy month in Lewisham...
