An organiser of agricultural workers, found dead with 14 others at a farmhouse

BBC link

I don't read spanish but I found an article from la jornada that says they were ambushed while driving somewhere and that some of the murder weapons were military issue (not sure how much that means in Mexico) I think it says his wife and 13 year old son were kiled too

Is this an anti union thing or is it just more of the drug wars (seems to be the official line)

The body of Margarito Montes, an organiser of agricultural workers, was among those found riddled with bullet holes in southern Sonora state

Fucking BBC...Sonora borders the US you idiots, you even have a Mexican map beneath! roll eyes

The weapons being military issue illuminates little, since we all know - contrary to the disingenous claims ofthe Mexican right wing and the US State Dept - about the heavy overlap between the military, police and narcos.

Who knows what dirty deals were going on, but it wouldn't be the first time narcos have targeted organisers. One example that springs to mind is of prominent agricultural organiser who was assassinated in neighbouring Chihuahua a couple of years back.

This from the La Jornada article:

Quote:
In March 2007, when his son Adrian was killed alongside two other youths in the yaqui [indigenous] village of Cócorit, Montes accused the PRI [state] government of Eduardo Bours Castelo of protecting the mafiosi who executed the action.
