I think the context is about preventing rape happening in the first place, not the appropriate treatment of alleged rapists.

Right, if people want to discuss shitty rape myths or your friends brothers cousin who had someone cry rape on them, then start another thread. Or better yet, don't.

Given the thread, statistically insignificant anecodtes about women who invent rape are not welcome.

CRUD/BJJ: this is a warning for derailing, and doing so with completely inappropriate comments, especially given the topic of the thread.

Reform capitalism to make it better for women!!!!!

Saying that patriarchy exists, that it should be abolished and that it interacts with capitalism in a way that leads to women suffering the worst of capitalist exploitation is not the same thing as wanting to reform capitalism. For fuck's sake, they even identify theirselves as part of a "global movement against capitalist oppression", perhaps not the terminology I'd favour, but it hardly marks them out as simply wanting to reform capitalism to make it less sexist.

But why get what people are actually saying get in the way of attacking them for having the temerity to speak out against patriarchical behaviour in the movement?

Sorry if this is too offtopic, in which case delete or whatever.
But Crud, BJJ, read this article a mate wrote to understand why your comments were really inappropriate. :[

Given context I think it's fine *but* if people want to reply/discuss the article, then start a new thread.

Yes, rape is widespread and there is always the risk of it, but the culture of some of the Occupies is dangerous. People sleeping in tents in the middle of an urban environment are vulnerable, and there appears to be no recognition of this. There are multiple reports of the sexism (and racism) coming out of occupy camps, as well as physical and sexual violence as well as theft. The degree to which both attitudes and behaviours are being challenged varies considerably between camps.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Occupies are being sought out by people on the margins of society, where people on the margins of society congregate, people who would prey on them descend.
