Pittsburgh G20
Not sure if a thread has already been started on this, but there's lots of news coming out about this. I've been posting a lot of it on my blog (http://athomehesaturista.wordpress.com/) for anyone who cares. One notable thing is that for the first time, they've started using acoustic weapons here in the U.S.
In unrelated news, also, there was a statewide school walkout because of fee hikes, class reductions and pay cuts in California today and UC Santa Cruz (a college) has area being occupied.
Scores of masked protestors brought mild disruption to the streets of Pittsburgh this week.
Groups came from across the nation to protest against the G20 meeting intent on doing "an anarchy".
One protestor and self-styled anarchist, Adam Adamson (19), said he had travelled to the protests from Washington DC along with a group of friends.
"We came here today because we are really really good at protesting," Mr Adamson stated.
"Like, we are going to show the G20 exactly what a protest looks like and try throw rocks and all that stuff that a protest involves because they have to listen to us then."
Adamson explained that his group had watched over 300 videos of riots on Youtube in preparation for the event.
"We think that what is really needed in America is a black bloc like they have in Greece," he explained.
"So if we all just dress like them then I guess it might happen, I mean, we have no real culture of that but maybe we could smash a window or two, then they will see we mean business."
Adamson explained that his friends had already been arrested and tortured by local police within minutes of donning their black masks and admitted he hope to join them.
"It wouldnt be an American riot if a bunch of scrawny white kids didn't get owned by the local cops," he added.
"I'm not scared though, if they go too far it will make a great campaigning issue for the Fall and I might even get my face made into a stencil."
Pittsburgh police have urged all parents picking up their children from the black bloc to park away from parade routes to prevent traffic anarchy.

change it back, it was punchier before.
Done.

ahh.. makes you feel optimistic for the future
Looks like they finally brought the LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device) out as a tactic for protests...

you guys know what pinky and the brain is?

probably the most interesting footage; the drumming is intense

i've danced to sub-genres of techno more irritating than that

as annoying as the 'USA! USA!' constitutional liberal is, that is some robocop shit right there
Still about 50 people in jail, from what I understand. The police made the bad pr mistake of invading one of the local college campuses and arresting students who had hitherto not been involved in the protests.
i heard it was at 150db though
Much as I love riot porn myself, I am kind of distressed to learn that apparently Obama has a better critique of spectacular activism than most US anarchos:
I was always a big believer in - when I was doing organizing before I went to law school - that focusing on concrete, local, immediate issues that have an impact on people's lives is what really makes a difference and that having protests about abstractions [such] as global capitalism or something, generally, is not really going to make much of a difference.
I wonder if he's read Give Up Activism?
hahaha fucksake. the protestors have worse politics than the president, role on the LRAD
The mofuckin' poetry is dans la rue, once again, like we always do, out here on the bloc. The black bloc, like they have in Greece.

meh...
this is classic
Black bloc anarcho-kids trying to explain what anarchism is:

even the president has more sense
The proper link to the terrible black bloc kiddies is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAvlFYcWnHc. It apparently features a certain ex-Libcom poster who is fucking hilariously awful in it.
asher please tell me it is not like this in NZ!
To be fair to them, giving any kind of a coherent explanation of why anarchism could be a viable system usually requires a bit of forethought and preparation, it's hard not to come off like an idiot when someone suddenly sticks a microphone under your nose during a demo. Are we allowed to know who the libcommer is, or is that a sekrit?

I have to admit, the guy in the middle of this photo actually has one of the worst masks I've ever seen (outside of the context of Halloween parties and so on, although even there he'd have limited competition):

It manages to combine all the "being really easy for the cops to work out who you are" of not masking up with all the "looking like a bit of a dick" of masking up, plus...I don't even know what's going on with it. Does it have a beak?

There are no libcommers in the video
People in the video
a girl = obviously not a libcommer
lee from hollyoaks
seth from the O.C
the editor
Greg Evigan's easily reversible crusty-look son +

and round the edge of face beard guy (these people are officially banned and unofficially hunted down)
'they track our asses'
Farce - They very unsubtley made it clear who they were on the ABC thread on this if you want to see there, not sure why but don't really feel comfortable posting it here myself.
Maloney - Yes and no....you don't get much masking up here, but the level of theory might not be too far off
the new black bloc standard mask -
a lot of crap in this thread. I would enjoy comments that consisted of something greater than one line of sarcasm. What are people objecting to exactly?
A regular modern day Che in the making, it seems, spreading the anarchy (and the word of Ron Paul) across the globe. Though to be fair he did appear to be the least dumb of that bunch.

Pointless activity, running around in masks petitioning the worlds leaders. Obsessing on spectacular violence but not having the balls to pull it off...

Let the political theatre begin....
