Problems and Censorship

Todey we have strong problems with censorship.
Still we can't publish new Black Star (our newspaper).
Police visited our friend and make her some troubles becous her name was on the newspape.
Propblem is serious. We must give name from pasport to the printing establishment or they woodn't work with us.
But if we do they can sent information to polise or F_SB (KGB).
In fakt one trotskist was arested few weeks ago in S-Petersburg exactly in the printing establishment offis!
Nevertheless we continue our work.
We have some new friends who is making propoganda at the factoris of Petersburg and Mockaw.

Strikes in Russia

We have contacts with railway workers during they strike at the summer and olso with some workers fron Ford factory in Petersburg.
But unfortunaly they are controled by reformist unions.
It was realy good then workers orgernised strike at the railway in sity Gelesnodarojniy by they oun assembly! I met with tham- they realy active people and they have workers dignity. But in the same time they controled by the central bureaucracy ot they union. Next day after they strike began bureaucracy stop that strike. Todey that bureaucrats join union SOCPROF wich is affiliated with rulling party (Edinaya Rossia) of Putin and Medvedev...

Movement Against Jentrification

We still contact with movements against jentrification and partisipated in they actions mitings, sabo and road blockades in Moskaw and S-Petersburg during that summer. But compare with year 2007 it lookes collapsed.
They main problem is locality. Local inhabitants take care just about they oun local problems as the medieval peasant during the Peasant War in Germany in XVI.
The small actions can gather just 100-200 people and in this summer even less (20-30 people) for one action. It's make tham easy target for polic attaks or gangster attaks. In the same time they are not ready to make strong united action with thousends of people. Every groop have 20-200 people and the are about 50-100 areas in Mockaw were people organized such groopes against gentrification. We say to tham many times that only collective action with 5.000-10.000 people can change the reality. But they don't think this way..They sometemes prefere to be dependent from bureaucrats..
From another side there is sort of new animation of movement at this autumn.

War

Todey we see rebirth of Russian imperialism wich was dead sinse 1991 crash of USSR and defeat from USA. Russian tanks join Gorgia and occupy put of this territory. It provokes gigantic flash of nationalism in Russia and Gorgia.
Of course we absolutly againts all sides of imperialist war and making anty-war propoganda. We strongly stand on the positions of class strugle anarchism and internationalism.

Addition 1

INFORMATION, FOTO and VIDEO
Unnoun militants orgernased night attaks agains bulding projects as part of anty-jentrification movement in Russia.
Here is information and fotos.
Some objekts were fired!

And this is Yesterday strugle!

Addition 2

Of course political partys -stalinists and liberals- want to use people assembles for they oun party aims. In fact some liberals was at that action.

So anarchists come to assembles and strugle TOGETHER with people!
Anarchist militants come and say - don't belive partys! Belive just your own assembly.

Some of anarchists strugle in the areas where they live. Some of anarchists come to help to another people assembles.

There are 2 different things i need to explane.

1) 90% of time anarchist militants use for local people assembles. In fakt yestarday there were about 50-100 independent local people and 5-7 party members. Of course we make propoganda among people against partys and than attak bildings area with people (together).
Things like that happened 2-5 times per month (at this autumn) in Moskow spontanously. This is spontanious rank-and-file movement.

2) There is another assembly (counsel). There is miting of some not-party independent activists and from another side - party activists (liberals and stalinists). The name of that is Council of Initiative Groups (CIG). CIG sometimes interfere in spontanious movement.
CIG has mitting in the flat every week. They leader is stalinist. We visit that assambly sometime for propoganda of our ideas among not-stalinists. We olso give articles for they newspaper "Dostaly" wich is todey not controled by that stalinist.

Why is this? Is your newspaper actually breaking any laws or is the state merely rattling cages?

I think that the problems with legal registration of magazines are similar in many countries. The UK is probably the exception. In France you must have a legally responsible editor to publish a newspaper. In Turkey, the situation is the same. Also if something is not legal you can not get it (legally) printed or sold in bookshops.

For us it raises two problems, one financial, and one legal. To publish a magazine you must have an office. We have one, but it is a great expense for a small organisation. Secondly, we run our paper illegally. It allows us to say what we want. Our theoretical magazine is legally registered. This means that we (or more to the point the designated individual) can be prosecuted for things that are in there. In the new issue there is one article that in our opinion is in violation of article 301 of the penal code. This means we are liable to prosecution. The chance, however, is small.

Which is in the end what it comes down to. I am sure there will be more problems in Russia than France.

Theoraticly they can use anti-extrimists loo. But practicly it is very difficalt to to prove enything in a court.
But it doesn't matter. In fact trozkist who was arested in Petersburg have nothing extrimists in his newspaper. His groope support some legal trade union like union of FORD.
This is dictatorship. There is no real elections and no loo. They do what ever they want. They can arrest everyone and they can kill. We don/t have massiv terror just becouse there is no serious resistens and state have no reasons for Massaker.
But if there is insurrections in Ingushetia it is possible.

Another story is Ingushetia. There is situation near insurrection. If it happen there are 2 posibilitys.
1) Russian troopes put it into the see of bloode as in Chechenia
2) It will go to anothe kaukazian autonomist republiks inside Russia and provoukes insurrections there...

What is the class strugle A situation in Checnia like? I don't know much about the conflict in that area t in general. I assume I will take the position that any region has the right to fight an Imperialist power, hope for an anarchist movement to take the intellectual lead, and not condone the bombing of civillians. Not that my libcom opinion counts for much ; ) I'll stop being lazy and read up on it tommorrow in case this thread gets more involved!

On behalf of CRAS-IWA, I`m mandated to inform that information sent by mmagid doesn`t reflect the real condition in Russia. We lives in a police State, of course, but his info is very exaggerated. We canned print our paper "Direct Action International" normally, without any difficulties defined by mmagid. The comrades which has problems, is now in our organization of CRAS-IWA and haven`t problems. Moreover, I know, that the organization of Magid (MPST, group which was in the CRAS but disaggreed with 2:1 majority of his members) printed his paper without problems one or two weeks ago... Russian anarcho-syndicalists are grateful to foreign comrades for help in many past years. But now, we don`t need any financial or technical aid... May be, practical one - in organizing the real practical unions instead of little propagandist groups which only participate in "external struggles". We need in particularity information about syndicalist work in education and science. Our contact is: comanar30@gmail.com

I thought Magidd was CRAS...he claims to be speaking for the Russian section of the IWA. Lemme guess, there's some more beef that I missed here due to finding IWA-related squabbles boring as FUCK.

Is everything else he says more or less correct then?

About class struggle... We don`t have information about some strikes in Ingushetia or Chechya. Past winter, there are big social protests in one other republic in Caucasus, in Daghestan, where the population protested because of lack of electricity and warm...

As to class and union struggle... Yesterday, a "day for defense of work" was organized by reformist trade unions. A little "alternative" union confederation VKT organized pickets against companys of temporary work. We from CRAS-IWA participed in a such picket in Moscow showing solidarity with rank-and-file workers and distributiong leaflets with explanation what are the anarcho-syndicalist unions and methods (also internationally). Big meeting organized by official trade unions confederation FNPR was a shame: they re-oriented all from economical questions to support of Russian politics in Caucasus. We were of course not let in, but we distributed many leaflets among rank-and-file workers

There were few political killings in Russia.
One of the leaders of opposition in Ingushetia Magomet Evloev was openly killed by polise of Ingushetia.
http://www.newsru.com/russia/08oct2008/evloev.html
Later chechen politik Ruslan Yamadaev was shoted in the center of Moskow not far from the hauses of russian government. Probably he was kiled by the oder of offisial chechen leader.
http://www.newsru.com/crime/24sep2008/yamada.html
Both killed person have groopes and clanes of armed supporters...
That is why insurrection can happen in Ingushetia.
The economy of Kaukazian repablics is in the terrible conditions.
Represions of local leaders and federal army are seriouse. Information
about militant resistens in Ingushetia and Chechna sometimes coming.

It shoode be clear: if it is possible to kil openlyl famouse politics there is no problem in killing simple people from opposition.
I alredy diskribe part of difficalts and polise pressure against us then we wonted publish newspaper.

Although I won't go into details here (and certainly I am not mandated to do so), there were moves to expel Magid from KRAS. News of the conflict in KRAS is published on the open internet in Russian and has been discussed on different mailing lists in Russia but I don't feel like getting into the details. An account was sent about the vote to expel Magid, which Magid in turn disputes. In this situation, my advice to my comrades is that they must produce a clearer protocol of the vote so the results are clear. If that means the vote must be retaken, so be it. In the meanwhile I don't find it cool at all that Magid says "don't take it seriously - this is a strange person" when it fact he has either been expelled or has been subject to this process. My friendly advice (and Magid is a long-time friend), is not to go down this path, protocol the vote properly and appeal to the different sides to accept the decision of the vote, not mislead people.

As for newspapers, this is typical statist repression. Of course there are ways to print papers still, although maybe not as convenient. The state simply wants to control what's being published and are intimidating people. In terms of registering publications, many countries have similar laws. We ignore them. The state isn't too interested in crushing us, although there was some repression related to a communist website. Internet sites are usually considered publications here and are legally subject to quite strict control. We are threatened every now and again with some legal action. In Russia of course the situation is much worse because of the uncontrolled strength of the state and police.

For those of us that are interested in the subject but can only read little Russian, there is a thread in the CNT-AIT Caen forum (http://cnt.ait.caen.free.fr/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4322). maggid and unforaisraruso are sharing their point of view there sometimes in English, sometimes in French and sometimes in Russian. As far as I got it, among the Russian IWA neo-foraistas there is a heavy dispute over the question of anarcho-internationalism versus anarcho-tribalism or anarcho-etnicism. This question seems to be a major problem for workers in Russia.

The concept of nationalism is a major problem in Russia. This has been a major problem in the left as well and in the anarchist movement. In particular, we could see a strong strain of nationalist ideas which concentrated on turning the problems of capitalism into the problem of foreign capital in Russia (really BAD analysis), turning the problem of globalization into the problem of the repression of "Russian" culture - whatever the fuck that is. (Technically, the "Russians" always considered the Jews to be a separate ethnic identity, so Magid was never a "good Russian".) The problem started out with Magid defending somebody who promoted anarcho-ethnicism. Magid knows my opinions on this topic well enough so I won't get into it here. This has developed into different arguments - over the nature of unions and reformism. Something like - Ok, you call me a nationalist and I'm gonna criticize you as a reformist. So the debate took some new dimensions.

Technically, I'm in Poland, not in KRAS and not involved in the debate, but I've been following a bit. I am however on Magid's reformist list. I at least admit that moving to Poland has necessitated some less hardcore approach and I can accept that I've fallen into the "unionist" pit. I don't know how much this is question is really a legitimate concern in KRAS though. That's the last organization where a really "reformist' wing is likely to spring up. What is being called "reformist" is probably still quite far away from it.

It also looks as though KRAS became of victim of a process I described on another thread today: it took more people recently and apparently got a few "politically incorrect ones". At least that's how I see it. It looks like a small part of the organization is going off in some wierd direction, I don't know where. And some of the old-timers look like they are also trying new things. The two directions look like they are going apart.

clearer protocol of the vote

Comment
Lora, what are you talking about...

1. First of all foristarusso created independent "sicdicate" with 4 people.
As for our statuts of 2003 all desigions can be made by assmbly of KRAS.
So where was no disigion collective decision about that.
And anyway only sindicate of KRAS has right to take new members and only if this sindicate is legitimised by congress of KRAS.
So there was no any congress;)
What are thay doiung? Thay take all the people who left KRAS in the past inqlud 2 greeko-catoliks.
They take guy who left KRAS and call himself nationalist.
They take they ralatives;)
Than they say- "we are in majority and we exqlude you". Who are that people? They are not members of organisation at all.
So they start "referendum". In the moning we get letters that this is referendum about exclusion of me and some over people. And this referendum will be finished... in this evening;)
What the hall is that?
It is the same if me and some over friends declare indepandant sindicate withaut permitiom of organisation. That we take 50 friends and relativers and lover's to that sindicate drink vodka and say that overs are excluded.
I am tolking about that just becouse you started. I don't care.

2. We as organisation is not making anu propoganda of ethnisism or anti-antnisism. We partisipate in peoples direct action. We make propoganda of general assembles, derect action, libertarian communism and of course internationalism. Intarnationalism means that all desposesed people need cooperation in general assembles and it doesn't matter what is the nationality, race, gender ets.
So you can call youself "russian" or "siberian" or you can be total cosmopolite (as Lora and Magid - he is olso cosmopolite) or anithing- and that is not our deal. We are not sect.
There were 200.000 proletarians in FORA. So i never belive all of them were cosmopolites and i know it is not like that but it is not even important becouse FORA created they own very strong collective identity (read texts of Elen Fine) and cood be called sort of religious community as cristians or shia...and this is olso sort of collective identity as etnisism or religiouse or even stronge....

3. What we wood like is to orgernise KRAS as sort of networks of 100% independent sindicates as some sections naw- withaut scandals and with minimum of coordinatin. I talked it 3 times to foristarusso. But this person probably need this spesial air of scandals and intrigs. Every day thay making scandals in our forum and internat. But we don't care and don't need that.

4 Fuck it i don't wnat to talk about it. 99% members don't wnat talk about that.

Misha, come on. I read your famous piece and responses to it. This is not a piece written in the name of KRAS, but of course your name is associated it. You are stubborn as fuck and probably wrote it partly to be politically incorrect, but I remember your crusade against the Belarussians for less than what you were talking about. Your recent ethnist texts are completely opposed to some of your former? opinions, and you should recant it.

I won't comment on the exclusion; as I said, the proper procedures need to be followed.

As for this "reformist" remark, actually you called me a reformist last time we spoke.smile I don't care about it. Yes, my memory is fine.

As for the sarcasm about this topic of the ethno-anarchism, in Russia (and in Poland), there is definitely the problem of the Querfront strategy, the work of the New Right, especially ethnopluralists, in the left and its infiltration into the anarchist movement. So yes, it is a problem for workers if the protest movements of workers come under the influence of those types of people and not internationalists. In Russia and Poland there have been cases of workplace struggles then turning into struggles to change the capitalist from a foreign to local one. That's not too common, but happens. Magid knows damn well that other anarchist organizations in Russia who were not diligent about this issue were publishing racist texts in their magazine and cooperating with Nazbols, and I think he also knows that anarcho-syndicalists in Poland were supporting and distributing third positionist, ethnopluralist, Pilsudski-Sorelist and even other crap and are actively promoting anarchoregionalism. But Magid is being dismissive of this now for some reason. I'm sure he knows this problem - he was kicking people's ass because of it before and now all of a sudden something's different. Maybe he crossed the line himself, maybe he just had a fit of temporary insanity with this topic. If it was a mistake, he should clear it up.

Well... I`m very, very strange man... And also dozen mans and womans which voted for expulsion of Magid are very strange, yes. And also the majority of anarchist community in Moscow outside of CRAS (as many people from Autonomous Action, organizations which is several times attacked from Magid and which pay him with the same)... Only Magid is OK. Everytime and for ever!!!!

Good... With the ethnicism of some people, it is clear more or less. It is sufficient to say that the man (defended by Magid with a so strong passion solidarized himself with comments of national-anarchists posted here, on libcom, in one of precedent discussions (about "national anarchism"). Magid doesn`want believe that the idea of ethnical identity and of possible creation of "free communes" on ethnical base isn`t compatible with anarchism. Let him go his way... But without CRAS. It was decided by majority of our members.

As for procedure questions... We can of course give the names of people which voted in CRAS referendum. People which voted for the expulsion and also which voted again. 11 from 18 people in Moscow voted for, majority of others abstain. Even 2 of 8 members of ex-syndicate of Magid voted for his expulsion. People had enough with him and his intern "activity"...

The entire procedure history in his version is a pure nonsense. Yes, the CRAS-IWA has since some years ago only one interprofessional union in Moscow and some individuals in other cities. And in this situation a decision was taken that further decisions at level of entire CRAS should be taken by referendum of all CRAS members. But it didn`t abolish the princip of autonomy of unions. So all decisions about Moscow organization were taken by members of Moscow organization only, not from entire CRAS. And it was decided that this situation is provisory only - until the emergency of new unions; after this the local conference and also a new congress shoild be prganized immediately.

On the other side, the process of clarification in the interprofessional union in Moscow, MPST was relative slow. In May, 4 of 12 members decided to form a new branch union iniciative in the education, science and technics, FRONT. The building of this union didn`t need the permission of resting MPST members because the previous decisions didn`t abolish the freedom of unions in the CRAS. Well, in our statutes is written that new unions must be adopted by the congress. But it is about people which isn`t members of CRAS yet, for the potential newcomers. These 4 people were yet members and so they don`t need any adaptation, according to statutes. In the world praxis of anarcho-syndicalism, one part of members of primary interprofession union (sindicato de oficios varios) can freely form a branch union without need to obtain permission from the SOV. Because they are yet in the organization. The contrary situation would be totally centralist - more centralist as it in the "Communist Party of Soviet Union"!

According to statutes, our unions are autonomous in adopting new members and only new groups of members or new individual members must be adopted by entire organization. It is not wonderful that our organization made it. 4 people which distanced themselves from the MPST some months or years ago in protest against sectarist position, authoritarian style or nationalist expressions of Magid (for ex., against participation in the broad antimilitarist activities, or - in style of Heidegger - about "selfness of every nation") joined as making return in the CRAS. It was a kind of "little historical reunification" for save our organization from ethnicist deviation and for renew it activity after some years of stagnation with ritual repetitions of methods which didn`t give a real growth of our influence in the workers movement. Then some new people came. And at least, 2 members of resting MPST went also in opposition to Magid`s line.

Acting in accord to our Statutes, we proposed to organize a conference of Moscow CRAS organization with delegates from both unions (FRONT and MPST) and from individual members. But this was no possible because Magid and his group in the MPST started to boycott us, paralyzing the normal organic activity of CRAS. It was ground for organize a referendum about expulsion... It was organized fully in accord with our statutes. Moreover, we think that ethnicist and their defenders can`t be members of anarcho-syndicalist organization. Our internationalism isn`t "inter+nationalism"
