ICC Public Forum on the Obama/McCain circus - New York - Friday 12th September

Submitted by Beltov on 6 September, 2008 - 19:46.

The ICC are holding a public meeting in NYC...

Subject: The revolutionary Marxist perspective on the Obama/McCain circus
Date: Friday September 12th, 7pm - 10pm
Location: 11th floor, 44 East 32nd Street, Manhattan. Between Park Ave and Madison Ave. Nearest Subway: 33 St - trains 4, 5, 6.

The electoral circus is in full swing - you'd think the future of humanity was at stake! The presentation from the ICC will focus on:

1. The poisonous mystification of capitalist electoralism
2. The political strategy of the ruling class
3. The revolutionary Marxist perspective on the Obama-McCain circus.

The presentation will be followed by several hours of open discussion. All welcome.

Don't worry, there are several other people from NYC going, but they're not regular Libcommers. Anyone else interested?

I'm trying to round up some WSPs to go.

I'd actually be interested in coming, however I am geographically oppressed. There'll be some kind of summary on the website, I hope?

FnB - Cool. The more the merrier.
ToJ - A write-up is a good idea. I'll suggest it to them. Also, I think the NY comrades are experimenting with recording the presentation on MP3 so that it can be distributed to sympathetic people who can't make the meeting. I'll keep you posted...

Did you go newyawka? Any chance of a brief report?

18 September, 2008 - 16:59

sure. it opened with a statement on the caucasus, supporting in turn KRAS' statement. then to the role of elections in the US, closely following the article in the second-last issue of internationalism. (this was recorded to be uploaded to the ICC website.) discussion followed. there were about 8 in attendance, half of whom seemed to be regulars. some of the commentary was solid, tho' the topic tended to wander and, in a situation not uncharacteristic of political meetings, once someone had the floor they gave a pretty comprehensive statement of their own worldview, which could run on a bit.

the room they have now is reliably available, and there will be a public forum every two months from now on. i'd go again.

I'm an anarchist. I have a worked-out ideology. Bollocks to revolutionary Marxism. I'm not going.

that's not a very productive contribution. Please try to be more polite to other forum users.
