Colombia
I guess everyone's heard that the young anarchist was murdered by the police in Bogota on May Day. (if not check out the enrager news wire page or www.iaf-ifa.org)
Question. Is there any kind of Colombian government office here in Manchester?
couldn't find anything. seems to be all based in london.
What about tourist offices or state airline?
This came from Colombian anarchists:
An anarchist, member of the black block taking part in the Mayday demo
in Bogota, colombia, is dead. He was a victim of police irrationality, of
a state founded on misery and terror.
We, the members of different colombian anarchist and libertarian
colectives, are calling to all the groups and individuals sensitive to this crime
of the state to take action in solidarity. We are planning a global protest
against Nicolas Neira killing, during the day against police brutality (may the
13th).
Details on it can be found in

I'd like to get something done here. The news is, frankly, shocking. 15years old, ffs. Beaten to death by a gang of cops.
Anyone got any bright ideas?

yeah, it's be good to do something, but the columbian consulate is in london - no bright ideas form me i'm afraid....
all i can think of is writing letters from up here in the wilderness.
there are flights to colombia from manchester airport. i can't come up with anything else vaguely colombian in manc. is there nothing around l'pool, ftony?
trying to find different angles... colombia has a shit human rights record and is trying to become a bigger player in the market ... main exports coffee and er..cocaine.. so they are touchy about negative publicity.. maybe writing letters isn't such a bad idea. weak i know but i can't think of anything else.
“The armed conflict between the security forces, acting in conjunction with paramilitary groups, and guerrilla groups, intensified following the break-down of peace talks with the FARC. This resulted in a marked deterioration in the human rights situation. More than 500 people ‘disappeared’ and more than 4,000 civilians were killed for political motives. Forced internal displacement continued to grow dramatically. Over 2,700 people were kidnapped, at least 1,500 of whom were kidnapped by guerrilla groups and paramilitary forces. This cycle of political violence was exacerbated by the security policies of the new government of Álvaro
Uribe Vélez which took office in August. The main victims of violations of human rights and international humanitarian law continued to be the civilian population, including the internally displaced, peasant farmers, and members of Afro-Colombian and indigenous communities living in conflict zones.”
We could always go to Colombia and protest it there in the safe knowledge that they'd think twice before bludgeoning British citizens?
Hmmm, maybe not.

i haven't foundd anything. There's quite an active Colombia Solidarity group in Liverpool but they're on the back foot after one of their anti-coke rallies turned nasty and someone threw an egg at some Colombian government minister!! So at the moment the Colombian press is saying that they're a bunch of extremists, and now they're not doing anything remotely controversial just in case.
Still, I'll have a word with the contact guy and see what he thinks.
