MSN!

9 November, 2006 - 14:43

oh, does anyone know the people organising this in Manc?

9 November, 2006 - 15:26

just to note, this may or may not still be saturday, as the no-sweat people had already arranged to picket disney that weekend (so many sweatshops, so little time wink)

9 November, 2006 - 16:00

Out of curiosity, have the GMB called for anything like this?

I think it IS the GMB.

I just spoke to No Sweat and they said there have been some serious injuries on the picket line today, so pickets on saturday may well increase.

People might want to look into the agencies running replacement workers: Heads Recruitment and Bond Personnel.

I'm not sure - they were replying to my question of whether there would be a picket in reading or sheffield and mentioned it as a reason why there might be an increase. It wasn't a direct convo about ca.

I could call them back, but they're No Sweat not GMB. It makes more sense for LC person with a decent contact to find out.

...should i call back?

9 November, 2006 - 16:24

dunno, could be chinese whispers if it's via no sweat. i.e. scab is pushed becomes picket violence becomes serious injuries or whatever. be good to know though neutral

9 November, 2006 - 16:28

BBC news:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/manchester/6130742.stm

nothing about confrontations on that one yet.

9 November, 2006 - 16:35

Hmm, I'd have thought that any serious violence at the picket line would have been pounced over by the beeb.

9 November, 2006 - 16:54

well if we're gonna sit here and whine about it i'll call back! tongue

9 November, 2006 - 17:15

If someone could take a pic or two, maybe do a quick write-up for news if you get some interesting info from workers, or if there have been confrontations (sounds odd though...) that would be ace!

9 November, 2006 - 17:29

when is the main support pickett? this saturday?

please mate, you would make John. happy - especially if there is confrontation grin

I could try to strangle Sorry. just to provide some dramatic material.

9 November, 2006 - 20:52

more from BBC:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/6134454.stm

seems like the injuries were an accident according to the BBC, lets hear the other side of the story...

9 November, 2006 - 20:56

Funny this happened just round the corner from where I work today.

LEP wrote:
Thousands of litres of water were pumped out of two Preston city centres stores after a fire set off a sprinkler system.
The small fire started at in a shoebox at the JJB storeroom on Fishergate, Preston, shortly after 2.30pm on Thursday and is being treated as suspicious.

Quote:
Insurance assessors were called to both stores as extensive water damage was caused to stock and the building structures.

Julian Williams, manager of Green Watch at Preston Fire Station, said: "It is a shame when a sprinkler installation that is designed to stop the spread of damage causes more damage than the fire itself. But that is what has happened here."

grin

10 November, 2006 - 12:56

riiiiiight, finally just confirmed with the no-sweat guy that they'll be doing their picket of JJB on saturday from 11am as stated in the leaflet. So all welcome to show up, will try to provide as many leaflets as possible. PM me for a copy if you've access to a photocopier and want to help out.

10 November, 2006 - 13:31

Reading about the violence rumours, i think i shall definately take my camera with me too.

10 November, 2006 - 13:39

nice one, see you there Sam. If anyone has something knocking about that they can turn into a placard, that'd be great, we're short on anything visible. Although no-sweat seem to have been sent materials.
