AF-NAN first meeting of 2008

Submitted by Peter Good on 4 January, 2008 - 08:49.

Five of us met last night in The Crown.

There was a short outline of "Dialogism" as defined by M M Bakhtin. Agreed we attempt to conduct ourselves through this medium.

We put our trust into the affinity group: of a society based upon the principles of M.A.D. - Multitudes of Activists of Dozens.

A letter currently being circulated by BB (of Northern Voices and NAN) was read out. Among other things, he deplores AF-NAN's tactic of searching for "cheap thrills" by "baiting other Anarchists".

We confirmed that a basic principle of AF-NAN is not to enter into exchanges of insults with other comrades.

There was a long discussion on the outrageous price of beer. One comrade complained that a round was almost equivalent to two hours of his labour. Agreed that we re-construct the old East Pennine Anarchist Dining Club and in future meet around a kitchen table laden with wines chosen from supermarket shelves.

Future meetings are to conclude with a whip-round and a donation to a worthy cause. We raised £13.82p and elected it be sent to Hobnail Review.

I find that really amusing. I presume he means something different from what went on in the pages of Northern Anarchist then?

So a substantial part of your meeting was spent discussing alcohol? Or am I missing the part where proposals to get involved in campaigns in a co-ordinated manner, publish material or hold events to actually bring your ideas to the public was discussed?

The campaign for real ale is a worthy cause grin
